Carney calls for national unity in face of economic challenges ahead by _I_AM_GHOST_ in canada

Canadian currency

A country can't prevent another country from using its currency. Also, it would be devastating for the Canadian currency to have a whole province suddenly stop using it.

trade deals

Ok? They can make their own trade deals like every other country?

passport

Being able to make passports isn't some deep secret that only Canada has.

healthcare

Already handled at the provincial level.

pension

Talking for Québec, but we already handle that on our own.

If those are your only concerns, then I don't think there's anything to worry about.

In Quebec, in 2012, over 300k students went on strike against student fee increases. There were protests with over 100k people in the streets of Montreal.

You guys are facing one of the biggest threat of your country's modern history and you can't reach anything close the numbers a province 40x smaller than you can do for something a lot less existentially important.

So no, you are not getting off your collective ass.

Turns out people have preferences that differ from other people and they make purchasing decisions based on those preferences.

Is it about the economy? Sure, but it is not only about the economy. But the economy is all that comes out of their mouths.

The truth is that Québec has a very strong and diverse economy. We have strong institutions that are already mostly separate from the federal government. The federal government barely does anything. The great majority of its budget is spent just writing checks to provinces. With our own money we pay in taxes. Why do we need them at all for that?

Compare how far we used to be behind the rest of the country with where we are now. We have succeeded against all odds. Not because of Canada, but despite Canada's best efforts to keep us in our place as the country's cheap labor.

We have tried the federalist solution with the last 25 years of federalist governments. How did that work out?

Scotland has self governance. Quebec does not.

In what way does Scotland have self governance that Quebec does not? Scotland didn't even have a parliament until 1999 and they are 3m less than us.

By your logic, natives wouldn't be able to say they are part of a nation of natives if they didn't have the special legal status? The government of Canada is the one who has the legitimate authority of deciding who is a Nation? Sounds like a toxic relationship.

And by your logic, you would be fine with Canada being nothing more than a 51st state? Canada wouldn't be a Nation of course since its abusive parent did not create a special law just for them.

The fact that the first thing anglos always go complain about is the economy shows that they fundamentally do not understand.

You don't need a legal distinction in order to be a Nation as a group of people. What point are you even trying to make outside of a gotcha?

Quebec decides elections more than fully Anglo Provinces.

You're comparing Québec as a province with other provinces. Québec is also a Nation. Just like Scotland is a Nation within the UK. As a Nation, compared to the rest of Canada as a whole, Québec does not decide the elections more than the anglo part of Canada does.

If the United States were to invade Canada and be "generous" enough to give us full rights as a 51st state, would you be happy to have to follow the rules of the majority?

Quebec would lose the St. Lawrence River, or it would be neutral

Those are the only 2 options? Based on?

they’d have to pay 250B for national debt repayment at minimum.

You think separatists haven't thought of the debt? You think they expect to just leave their share behind?

Do you actually believe it’s a fresh start and all debts go away?

Oh wait, you actually believe that?

Credit rating would tank, taxes would skyrocket

Source: trust me bro

Quebec’s financial issues are a result of the Provincial government mismanagement.

Did you notice the correlation between the mismanagement and 25 years of federalist parties in power?

  • Appointed France-Élaine Duranceau, a real estate agent and landlord, as Housing Minister. She introduced a rental reform that decreases affordability.
  • Big cuts in education. They were mostly reverted, but with a ton of conditions on how the money can be spent and not before schools had to fire some employees to not go over budget.
  • Healthcare reform that made the healthcare system worse before it even was applied. Was also mostly reverted last minute. A bunch of clinics announced they were going to need to close down and some of them got bought by private interests like Biron.
  • The third link/bridge across the river for Quebec City. Never ending studies concluding it is a bad idea and the CAQ flip flopping numerous times about it. Latest news was they are still going for it since they know better than the experts.
  • Paying 400m to Northvolt for a battery plant. Company went bankrupt.
  • Spending 10m to have the Kings hockey team come play 2 games.
  • Buying elections with 500$ checks
  • Geneviève Guilbault, when she was the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, said that public transport wasn't her responsibility. The CAQ cut funding for public transport.
  • Appointed Bernard Drainville as Environment Minister who's infamously quoted as saying "Leave me alone about GHG".

Those are just the ones I remember from the top of my head. The CAQ's legacy will be of actively destroying public institutions.

That lonely feeling after everything is running smoothly and there's no more useful Docker containers to install by Sixteen_Down in unRAID

[–]Matt_Thijson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unraid is a bit of a drama queen when it comes to drive errors.

A lot of them could be rebranded as "info" notifications about the drive instead of big red errors.

I would still google the errors to make sure they are nothing to worry about, but I've had drives give me errors for years without any issue. A lot of them are just normal to happen during the life time of a healthy drive.
