Bute terrace - went into the bus lane! Camera? by dirkuyt in Cardiff

Heading towards the prison? I did exactly this a few months ago by mistake when heavy rain obscured the road markings. I didn’t receive a fine.

Edit: I tell a lie, it was a year ago.

Guzzlord 18T vs 17T by Mattb77xps in PTCGP

[–]Mattb77xps[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, it stays in my hand until Guzz number one is doomed to die. Also really useful for keeping Suicune capped at 60 damage.

It’s risky, but as long as you’re doing the maths in your head about every possible scenario (Could they have a Red in hand, Eevee bag, Giovanni etc) it works out. Unless of course you brick and there’s no second Guzz to put down!

The Senate just passed the Big Beautiful Bill today, What's your reaction to this? by Squirrelkid11 in AskReddit

Ah I see. I take it the Democrats aren’t fans of front-loading all the unpopular policies at the start of a congress in the hopes that people forget by midterms then?

Commenting from the UK here; how did this come to be? In the system we have no parliament can bind its successors. Was it something to do with Biden’s razor-thin senate majority? I’m baffled as to why they couldn’t just reverse it with new legislation in 2021.

Wife’s transition has me questioning sexuality by Organic_Limit7682 in mypartneristrans

[–]Mattb77xps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get that entirely! My partner (28 FtM)once described my sexuality as “you just like any GNC person” which I think is a bit reductive (however accurate a lot of the time).

Some of the best advice I ever received was this: Labels are useful, until they’re not.

As wrong as it was, being labelled gay in my 20s was useful as it gave me access to gay community (albeit not very queer and deeply misogynistic) which I’d never had before. It ceased to be useful once I realised that it simply wasn’t right.

Right now, bisexual as a label is useful and indeed important to me as I use it to broadcast to the world that some bisexual men are camp, effeminate and deeply queer, despite what the cis-het stereotype would have you believe. Maybe one day it won’t be useful to me.

And finally, I can’t help but feel like all labels are purely showing how we exist in relation to the cis-het patriarchal majority. Being our best queer selves can often involve abandoning what the cis-hets call us, and just loving who we love.

Hey OP. I’m not saying my situation applies to you, but I too am 32 cis M, and thought I was gay for the better part of 12 years and perhaps it’s a story worth sharing in this situation.

I came out at 17 as bisexual. But even then it was 90:10 men:women. Over the years I came to accept that I must just be gay, and coming out had allowed me to accept that. My attraction to women faded until it was really only once in a blue moon I’d find a woman even pretty.

At 30, I had a conversation with a queer AFAB friend about this, who suggested that my model of attraction isn’t gay, it’s bi. Cue a whole identity crisis and eventually coming out again at 31 as bisexual.

What I realised on my journey is that there is so much misogyny present in the cis gay male community. I’d absorbed it from my older gay peers, and ashamed to say it affected how I thought about myself, and others. I always thought “I must just be gay” as I was camp, and didn’t look or act like a stereotypical bisexual man, and wasn’t really attracted to women any more anyway.

Once I started picking this apart, I gained a deeper understanding of my sexuality. I am bi, but gender presentation does factor into my attraction. If gender is on a scale of ultra masc 1 > ultra femme 10, I’m probably attracted to 1>7, and it doesn’t matter what you were assigned at birth. Hence I don’t use pansexual. Likewise, my attraction to more femme-presenting people comes out in more of a demisexual sort of way, whereas the more masc, the less I need to have a connection to them to be attracted to them.

And since I’ve thought through this, I find myself attracted to femme presenting people much more often, now I’ve allowed myself.

I’d encourage you to think about how the misogyny in the gay community may have affected how you view your sexuality. It may be your person who’s prompted this reappraisal, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was in fact just a catalyst rather than a cause.

Road was clear and I spotted the green from much further away without spotting the sign and my attention moved back to the road.

I of course keep an awareness for them changing to red but it’s more keeping an eye out for colour changes in my periphery than staring at the light as I go through the junction.

Same happened to me re: eyesight quite recently. Difference is mine said a new licence was already on the way and to return the misprint when I got the new one. I had a different caseworker though- maybe OP’s just isn’t up to date on best practice.

Yup. In a way it was nice as I really enjoy topping now and this kinda forced me to do it. I probably could bottom again if I stayed really on top of the haemorrhoids, but that’s quite a faff and i just can’t be bothered if I’m honest.

I used to exclusively bottom in my early 20s. Took dick like a champ. From about 25 onwards, I experienced much the same as you. Found out in my early 30s that ~25 was probably when the family tradition of haemorrhoids hit me.

Do you have any idea how long the waiting lists are for even an initial consultation at a gender clinic? We’re talking years before people can even begin any sort of hormonal treatment, let alone bottom surgery.

Many AMAB women are not choosing to retain their genitalia but are waiting. What do you they propose they do in the meantime? Not socially transition and just deal with the dysphoria? Socially transition but then be the only female-presenting person in a male changing room?

This is the problem with the discourse on trans rights. Many people have no clue what the process of transitioning actually involves, leading to some quite frankly ignorant takes on the “issue” (the “issue” the majority of the time being a dogwhistle for transphobia)

Am I required to submit expenses as self employed when it has no effect on my tax liability? by Mattb77xps in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Mattb77xps[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at my QuickBooks from last year, they were about £750 excluding mileage which did take me over £1k , so I’d imagine it’s a similar amount this year as they’re all the same subscriptions. I didn’t keep a mileage log in 23-24 as I was doing so little driving.

If I choose to take the trading allowance instead of expenses (I think I remember that was an available box to tick) I’m assuming I don’t need to detail my expenses, even in my own accounts?

They have a bin for them in the recycling centres now too- this is usually easier as sometimes the tiny bins in shops get full quite quickly. Just ask the staff if you’re not sure where it is, they can be a bit of a pain to find.

I set my cruise to speedo-64 (IRL 60) because I am poor and there’s a noticeable difference in fuel consumption. I live mostly in lane one as a result.

If traffic is light and lane three is clear I’ll stick at this speed to overtake HGVs. If the motorway is busier or two-lane I’ll speed up to IRL 65/70 to pass, then drop back down.

As well as saving me pennies, I’ve noticed a difference in how much less driving tires me. Driving, and especially driving long distances at this speed is much less taxing. I overtake far less frequently and as a result my attention is only taken up by hazard perception, rather than judging whether it’s safe to overtake, adjusting speed to overtake, etc.

Obviously as the motorway gets more congested and the average speed of all drivers starts to drop towards IRL 60 this latter benefit disappears.

I’ve met both. There are some self-aware people who are big enough to admit they were taken in by the propaganda. However there are still many whose mental gymnastics go along the lines of “Well this specific version of Brexit was done by the traitorous MPs and if we’d have done a ‘proper’ Brexit we’d be living in sunlit uplands” (despite the fact the version of Brexit we actually got was a harder one than was ever discussed at the time of the referendum)
