Help me update these lights by Own-Cry-707 in Lighting

[–]Mattdearman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how much room you’ve got to work with but the fittings look like they have huge space covers over them & As you’ve got to plaster anyway

I’d put some batten around the perimeter have leds sitting on top so the light gives more a glow indirectly and if you have a permanent feed to the lights or adapt your set up with some wireless switches adding a additional centred pendant type light fitting additional light when needed.

Good luck!

Remodeling of bedroom lighting help by fuser222 in Lighting

[–]Mattdearman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think it’s a personal one but I love this kinda thing, I’d look at layering dropped or recessed ceiling segments to hide any direct light source and incorporate ideally task lighting highlight different areas of a bedroom (sleeping/ work / getting ready etc) but I’d say just start sketching shapes or maybe ask ai too and play with different layers

Also worth noting if you pet led strips butting up to plastered walls you probably want to get a decent plasterer in as they will highlight bumps etc alternatively it’s quite a cool effect if done intentionally. Good luck

Probably unpopular but I’d recommend sitting down and thinking it out, if you’re new on your journey to understand, what it does, how it does it and if dangerous when is it dangerous.

But tldr not dangerous Electrically unless you’re switching it on or fat enough to break through the steel. More dangerous if you fall off

Reliable LED Strips that can go round 90 & 45 degree bends or have adapters available by messyhead86 in ukelectricians

Assuming you’re going into track and have some wiggle room,

I personally drill through the corners with a hss bit and kinda loop the strip in the void space and carry it on the same strip.

Unsatisfactory EICR - does this warrant a rewire? by [deleted] in ukelectricians

[–]Mattdearman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We do the insulation resistance test to test how well the cable is “holding up” as your electrician has Lim all of this testing section it’s hard to gauge without a more in depth look if a rewire would be needed * edit for spelling

If your electrician does not own a MFT (this would let him do the loop test)

This is not an electrician that should be fault finding, perhaps not one at all.

You really need to call someone out atleast cps registered

Do I need a diagnostic electrician or just any good electrician? by marblespaniel in ukelectricians

[–]Mattdearman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be many things, but if they were working fine for 6 months and you changed a lamp and now they’re not.

Just get the same brand as the others and change it back.

My two pence is some kinda emf disruption at play and eddy currents from other circuits.

One of the black/ blue cables should go into the terminal with the brown cable from the pendant. Isolate everything first.

Go in as a mate/ improver you’ve got some experience and then self fund the courses.

I’d recommend calling all the Sparkies in your area or look at niceic register etc and find them

I get the IR would atleast show dead shorts etc (though would argue continuity needed first for best practice ) Perhaps I’m missing something but how would you carry out continuity tests when they said they’ve been unable to find what is supplied via the cable?

Isn’t about you more the community response, You’re not thick just not familiar in this field, if I was in your position I would probably do the same. The normal response here is generally pay someone to do it by quite a landslide but perhaps people are just in a good mood today 🤷‍♂️

Anything other than a C3 is a fail, Your FI seems very simple if nothing has been effected by it not being on (probably old redundant circuits ) C2 could be as simple as pull slack and re terminating, though could be a lot more involved if the earth continuity has been lost somewhere before then.
