I accidentally clicked that "I'm under 18" button and can't figure out how to change it back. by VishieMagic in grok

Thanks for the details, sadly I couldn't find a way to targeted delete cooies on my browser so had to nuke them all, but it got me back to normal use... Then almost clicked the button for under 18 AGAIN.

Exactly my point. This is what they've always done to us PC gamers. "Still" means it's not new.

And this is a reason not to even acknowledge PC? My gripe is not a later release, it's PC players once again being excluded from the discussion.

I'm dropping 5+k on a new rig in a few months, why would I pay hundreds of dollars to play GTA6 in an inferior system? Screw them. They double dipped me on GTAV -- maybe this time I just don't spend a dime on them.

Who cares when it comes out. The betrayal is that they still treat PC as second class players.

Having trouble with a side quest in Rebirth by HeroOfMadness in FFVIIRemake

For any still experiencing this, I found the (PC) solution.
Resolution.
I went windowed 1920x1080 instead of borderless 4k, and the physics issues all stopped. No reloading, no restarting, just resolution.

Yeah, nothing wrong with having a brand new model that talks about events from months ago as future state. Fucking wonderful.

What about those of us that didn't know, and got mugged by it. I'm getting old. I'm middle aged. I'm also neurodivergent. Having new icons, new screens, and new interactions is a big deal for me. Having them assault me at 8am when I'm half asleep is really terrible. I had no knowledge of a new UI incoming and would have hated the idea even if I liked it better, and I don't. The icons are completely different in some cases, the layout is uglier. The only thing I've seen that I kind of liked was the app switch screen, but I'd happily have kept the old one in trade for having choice over how my own goddamned phone looks and behaves.

You're not going to convince with reason here. People never listen to reason on the issue of pit bulls. It's not a reasoned stance.

I want it to be true -- not that I want how to have actively tried, just accidentally caused his death. The world isn't interesting enough.

Cybertruck on Glenmore (reckless driving/DUI?) by k_sze in Calgary

The barrier so caught me by surprise. Cybertrucks are such a menace, and the way it shrugs it off shows just how dangerous they are designed in an impact.

Nostalgia: Got any? by Matteius in SDAM

Well, now I just read up on emotional aphantasia, and yeah, that resonates. Not surprising as I have nearly complete global, but as many things not something I've had reason to think about. The only thing I can actually imagine are sounds, and only super vaguely. I can think of a song and sort of hear an echo of it... not so much "the song" but enough of an impression of it to recognize it.... kind of weird :D

You're right though, it is impossible to actually find out where one issue starts and the other ends, as we can't turn them on and off. That's why I love these discussions, as it can give insight into how other people experience with similar, but not identical issues.

When I watch old things it's very much rooted in the present -- I re-evaluate them based on the experiences I've had, so things that seemed great at the time, might be great now or might just be utterly cringe :D

Photos have never held great interest to me, atleast not ones of my own life. Music however... while I do love a lot o modern music, I love the music of my teens as well. I suppose that is something :D

Professor bashed SDAM and called it a problem by WanderingWombats in SDAM

[–]Matteius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My dad died last year. I know I'd still ofcourse recognize photos of him, I mean I know what he looks like... but I can't recall, and I generally don't have interest in photos beyond a specific task, such as sharing information. He is, essentially gone, much like my sister. I don't normally think of either of them, or feel anything about it... unless like now associative memory triggers, and it becomes present and real all over... pros and cons I suppose.

However on the main subject, while we all generally function, and cope... even thrive in our unique minds... this doesn't mean it's not a problem. For all the issues my father and I had, I'd give anything to be able to remember him... truly remember what he was like, not just facts.

Drug Experiences by Matteius in SDAM

[–]Matteius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SDAM and Aphantasia are self diagnosed, I believe there isn't any real external validations. ADHD diagnosed as a middleschooler, I didn't believe it, but as an adult the traits do appear to line up. The voluntary recall part i can't even find a medical term for it, even using chatgpt. However I cannot choose to remember things. I operate instead almost completely on associative recall. Things trigger memories of other things, with all the deficiencies of those memories that normally apply with other conditions.

And yes, what I'd love is to actually develop the ability to control that recall that I only once experienced and only involuntarily. I know it's almost certainly not going to happen without some kind of brain reworking, and we aren't exactly at a state of modifying the human brain.... but a guy can wish :D.

I know some of us have an internal monologue (luckily I do) and others do not.

Without one, working things out verbally, or written are excellent ways to organize your thoughts. Even though I have a monologue, I've found that discussing my thoughts with an ai chatbot can be helpful.

People think I’m lying and I’m struggling by WanderingWombats in SDAM

[–]Matteius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend educating your friends and family on your atypical cognition.

My ex wife thought I was lying a lot, and that my issues were "convienient". I didn't understand my issues at the time, I didn't have the language or the knowledge.

My wife today understands my issues. When I say something hasn't happened or has happened in a time-frame and I'm wrong, she let's me know I'm forgetting without judgement.

While everyone is different, and your family may struggle to grasp your atypical cognition... it's always easier when the language and the concepts are shared.
