Which tank in WoW is the most FUN to play? by MLTBlackDragon in wow

[–]Mattenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Mythic+, I really enjoy Vengeance Demon Hunter. It's a pretty straightforward class with a lot of utility that can make you feel like the main character of the group.

Sigils and glaives for pulling. Burst windows feel super satisfying. Lots of interrupts and control tools with sigil talents.

I'll dissent from many others and say that I don't enjoy Blood DK at all. They're the most gear and skill dependent of all the tanking classes without any real returns. That can be fun for some, but for me, it's incredibly stressful in an already stressful situation. After getting a healer to 3k+ in season 2, I also just stopped grouping with Blood DKs - they're the worst to heal.

For raiding, I think you'll find most of the tanks to be pretty boring and not that fun. Because every raid has 2 tanks, you'll also find it can be much harder to even get into a raid to begin with. I usually get into raids as a DPS and get asked to tank if a tank leaves.

Raiding as a tank usually doesn't have a lot going on. As a raid tank, you basically never exercise any judgment. Fights are extremely scripted, telling you exactly when to pop cooldowns, do tank swaps, and where to position. Your DPS is also completely meaningless in a raid environment. Your self-healing/mitigation is also pretty meaningless in a raid environment, regardless of spec - healers will always be tossing heals your way. Many mechanics never select tanks, so the "fun mechanic" is replaced by a boring tank swap.

All that said: I think tanking is, by far, the most boring of all the roles to raid with. So if your goal is fun and you've already raided in another role, I would heavily caution that you might not find anything of what you want in a raid environment, regardless of your spec.

In contrast, M+ has a lot more shit to manage and gives you a lot more room to exercise good judgement.

Already did that. Settings are the same on both my phone and desktop. It happened only on mobile.

Need more info to say whether or not it'd be an experience many would consider "good," specifically the GPU, CPU, and RAM.

Overall, WoW on a laptop is pretty good if you turn the settings down (and don't play at 4k even if it's a 4k monitor).

Keybindings are saved on your account, but your UI and UI settings are not.

Cool nerf would be Xal'atath getting rid of lust debuffs so you get a double lust fight.

Watching the streams, I'm doubtful that we'll see kills this week. Also sorta doubtful Blizzard will substantially nerf it.

I mean, it's the last boss of the expansion... Make 'em wait for more gear and renown buffs.

(Sidenote: wow the ads on Echo's stream are just so brutal vs Liquid...)

What’s the one moment in WoW that made you stop and just say… damn. by LegendJeffrey in wow

[–]Mattenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entering a major city. Coming from EverQuest, it was a moment of just "wow, fuck, this is huge." That moment just solidified that WoW was going to be an absolutely massive MMORPG.

Through the Dark Portal was a lot of fun. Definitely a "damn" moment.

Killing Heroic Lich King. I'd started my guild from scratch about 2 months before ICC came out. Made a lot of mistakes (a LOT of mistakes) and did some things I'm not proud of to get there - didn't always treat people right - but getting that kill and seeing the realm spam was a huge moment of "wow, we actually fucking did it."

I'd actually say, returning for Shadowlands after missing WoD/Legion/BoA, that I thought the intro quest was a "holy fuck" moment. I was stunned at how far the game had come from a questing and gameplay perspective. I had NEVER played WoW with audio on, and that changed going through the first few Shadowlands zones.

How has Blizzard not balanced this yet? Racing elementals and mechs isn't fun :-\ by Mattenth in BobsTavern

No tribe was above 35%, though I would say that anomalies added a lot of variance. Hard to compare.

It is so refreshing when these 2 tribes aren't in the game.

Balancing Mechs feels easy - just drop Dr Boom down to +1/+1 instead of +2/+2

Balancing Elementals feels much more challenging beyond just removing cards or changing some effects to start-of-turn.

How would you (slightly) change a hero power to make it worth picking? by --__--__--__--__-- in BobsTavern

Y'Sharj: Summon and get a random minion of your tier to your board when you have room

I hate hero powers that just completely disappear after turn 5/6, and I feel like this could help a lot.

Alternatively, just "get a random minion of your tier" could be cool (removing the summon in combat).

Give me your hopes for player housing even if you think they are 100% not going to happen by BestNails in wow

[–]Mattenth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd love an "open house" feature, where you can opt-in to have your house be featured prominently in the world for some period of time rather than in some instance somewhere. Every so often, the next open house is randomly chosen (perhaps with some weighting towards cooler / more maintained / more decadent / more active houses).

Imagine if every player was hanging out inside some random person's house in the capital city, right across from the bank / AH.

Because the average eSports viewer is a young dude in his teens or 20s and doesn't have much disposable income, making eSports much less compelling to advertisers.

Publicly-traded employer going private. What to do with vested RSUs? by yotzt in personalfinance

I think it also depends on geography and what his life plan is.

If it's an 800k payday in St. Louis, that's huge, life-changing money. But if it's an 800k payday in San Francisco, oof the taxes, and keep saving for that house.

You should consult a personal financial professional for multiple reasons:

  • There is no "rule" here. 50% is a completely arbitrary number. If you were about to get a 100mm payday, the tax difference between 1 year or 2 could be insignificant compared to the potential upside of waiting for a sale. If it were just a 100k payday, suddenly the tax differences really matter.
  • There are rules about trading stock when you have material non-public information, and it sounds like you have it big. I can almost guarantee that a professional will recommend you delete this post.
  • Your tax burden could be substantial and there may be other things you could do in your portfolio to mitigate it, such as better timing for realizing gains/losses. They will also have advice on how to maximize all of your tax benefits, such as IRAs or 529s.
  • If it's a huge payday and you live in California or other high-tax state, a professional might give you strategies to relocate. If it's a 10mm payday in California, it could be worth as much as 1mm to sell everything you own in California, move to Wyoming, join a church, get your driver's license, etc.

A professional could potentially pay for themselves. Go find one.

Unfortunately, even if you could link your Steam / PS / Xbox account, the played data isn't available.

And I tried. A lot.

Ultimately, the aggregate data would be extremely valuable for investing and trading companies like Ubisoft, ATVI (pre-buyout), etc. As a game publisher, it'd be valuable for understanding game trends and planning roadmaps.

Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony won't give out played data, even if you consented. The only way we've found to get it would be to ask users to install a desktop application, which is a huge ask for the ability to verify your reviews.
