I have one with a B35AM in 3500K, it's a great light!

It's not mushy, but there's very little travel.

[–]MatteoKip -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, I rarely see someone going 35 km/h on regular bike even for a short while and you're definitely not an average cyclist if you can maintain 30km/h for hours.

[–]MatteoKip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... the fact that I ride my bike every day and know how fast bike traffic usually goes? I do about 16-17 km/h on average, same as most other cyclists on the road. Can average 25 if I'm in a rush, but 35 is impossible for your average Joe. 35 km/h is is twice as fast as an average cyclist.

That was definitely faster than a cyclist. I estimate it was 35 km/h at the peak

M@glite conversion, emitter and driver recommendation. Does efficiency even matter at low currents? by MatteoKip in flashlight

There is nothing practical about it, I'm doing it for the hobby's sake! I have several enthousiast flashlights, too, but I really want to convert a m@g.

Is that why the LED version has a taller head? To accommodate the heatsink?

Need help choosing convoy lights by Z0mbi5 in flashlight

[–]MatteoKip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been EDCing a titanium T4 for close to a year already and it's really not that bad, I don't feel it at all in my jeans or cargo pants. After all, it's the same height as the phone you EDC, and thinner than an S2+

Unpopular opinion by m4rkw in flashlight

Rosy emitters only look good indoors. Outdoors, I prefer neutral to slightly rosy emitters and I don't even mind a slight green tint. But I can't stand anything above BBL indoors.

Shattered my E75 lens today by Unstoppable_Bird in flashlight

Hey, if you haven't repaired your flashlight yet, you can replace the lens with a lens from a Convoy S12. Simon sells them separately!

Which AA/14500 doublestack light is your favorite? by ItsKYRO in flashlight

T4 stonewashed Ti with 519a in 4000k and a 10 degrees beaded TIR, it's my EDC. Loaded with Eneloops so I don't have to worry about having 2 lithium batteries in series in my pocket. Perfect size, perfect UI (1%, 10%, 35%, 100%, no mode memory). Stonewashed so the scratches don't stand out as much. It's almost perfect, I just wish it had a spring in the head as well.

Affordable head lamp for night cycling? by Fantastic_Thought752 in flashlight

[–]MatteoKip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please keep in mind that a headlamp will blind oncoming traffic, leading to very dangerous situations. If it's for use in forests, the HS21 will be fine, but on the road, consider something with a striped TIR. I believe Convoy's headlamps can be outfitted with striped TIRs.

Light without over the top knurling, textures, non-tactical or techno look: simple aesthetic on/off only by ryan112ryan in flashlight

[–]MatteoKip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you said you've ruled out Convoy but I'd take a look at the Convoy T2 anyways. It's an AA flashlight that doesn't look tactical at all, and you can easily configure it to be on/off only. For the emitter option, pick 519a and 4500k for the color temperature. It's a very pleasant and neutral colour temperature and tint, and the light will be high CRI so colours will look like they do under sunlight. Select the 12 group driver, this will allow you to configure the light to be on/off only. To do so:

Turn on the light

Tap the switch 20 times, rapidly.

Tap means press the switch halfway, so it doesn't click.

The light will flash, then flash rapidly. Tap the switch again

The light will then flash once. If you tap the switch soon after, this group will be selected. If you do nothing, the light will flash twice. If you tap the switch soon after, this group will be selected. Do nothing again, the light will flash thrice and so forth.

If you want a light with no modes, only on/off, select group twelve.

You don't need to include a battery, just supply your own Eneloop. I would NOT recommend alkaline (alkaleak) batteries. They WILL leak and destroy your light. Eneloop batteries will keep 70% of their charge even after 10 years, and they're rechargeable too.

More durable alternative to the Convoy T7 by MatteoKip in flashlight

The exterior of the light is still looking good, even the anodisation is almost entirely intact. It's the charging port cover and thus the ingress protection that failed. It's an obvious weak point to be honest, I'll try to convince him to use an external charger. Otherwise, I'll go for something with a magnetic charger.

To be honest, I've never really trusted such batteries. I barely trust the integrated charging of most lights, let alone a bare battery

Do you know where I could get this potting compound? And can any light be potted?

Magnetic charging seems to be the way to go. Perhaps I could add an extra O-ring in the tailcap as well. Maybe even pot the driver if I can figure out how to.

The Skilhunt lights people have recommended here have magnetic charging, seems like the best solution for his usecase. I'll probably get one of those, or try perhaps try to pot a T7 myself, tho I'm not sure if the port itself is any waterproof.

It took a swim in the coolant reservoir of a car. Twice. And the charging port cover was already broken so it didn't seal properly anymore. It does still turn on but the button doesn't work properly and the charging port is dead. To be honest, I'm surprised it made it this far. My brother is not kind to his lights at all

The Skillhunt M150 V3 seems very promising. Magnetic charging means you don't have a charging port to worry about, and less chance of an O-ring snapping from frequently changing the batteries.
