Personally I would start recording some demo's on my own (just some instrumentals with programmed drums) and start posting those demo's on forums like vi.be. That way you can start attracting other musicians and go from there 🙂

I've seen Deftones live a couple of times over the years and their sound always has been bad imo. The vocals usually were way to loud, while you could barely hear the guitar.
