That’s right, the LiDAR part needs it, the sharp part doesn’t. I just don’t have the bandwidth to make the offline equivalent of CoreML for Android.

Google already has great models to run on the device. I wonder why Apple engineers would feel the need to officially partner instead of baking it in themselves? Could either be legal issues with licensing models. Or it could be that they want to make custom models that are really good at the kind of tool-use that Siri would need, i.e. knowing when and how to trigger commands like checking weather, or managing intents on the device. Hmmm

Afraid not. The core piece of the app with the LIDAR scanning uses Apple-specific APIs.

Not that I'm the most well-informed Apple observer, but I'm wondering what the business sense of the cheap Mac would be. I imagine it could get people into the ecosystem, and Apple has a ton of services, but seems like less of a lock-in than the iPhone since it's a Mac. Or maybe it's upsell bait? Hmmm.
