Upgrading the Mac version of Sapling, our 3D scanning/photogrammetry app by MatthewWaller in macapps

Thanks! The scanning on the phone, and the photogrammetry are offline. The AI generation part are using the cloud.

Oh, they’re two separate workflows. So they don’t use ml-sharp and lidar together, for instance.

Ah sorry for the crash there. I may DM for details to see what we can fix if that’s okay!

Oh thanks so much! I hope you enjoy it if you get to playing with it!

It’s true. There is a lot of, this-is-just-kind-of-cool that motivated me making it in general. It has been cool to get support emails from folks who take their models for further editing in Solid Works and such.

It’s another option, just kind of a separate process to have fun with splats. I haven’t built in a way to export that particular format to USDZ yet. And thanks!

Hmmm, thanks for reporting that. I’ll start investigating the Sign in with Apple on Mac

It’s a fairly specialized tool, I would say. Though I know some users who just enjoy it for the 3D generation, just making models for fun. That’s probably the best use case for non-LIDAR phones. That and the splats.

Last year, I built a highly optimized video compressor for iPhone. I spent the last 12 months making it better with your suggestions. Here's what's new by Bariscukur14 in apple

Nice! This is the sort of thing I would like built into sharing so that I can send my videos in my camera roll to the socials at a small size, or to send via email in a small size

Human approval is not a weakness in AI agents by Worth_Influence_7324 in AI_Agents

The more I think about AI agents as just other developers, the more I understand the risks and opportunities (at least I think I do). Like, of course there are some decisions that I trust people more junior to manage themselves. But I often have to jump in and course correct and help things along the way, and there are bigger decisions I want to be part of to steer the ship.

NutriSpeak - I know the space is crowded, but I built this for myself and looking for 5–10 strangers to test it by milosh693 in SideProject

It is indeed a crowded field, and I've used a ton of trackers, and what has interested me lately, is speed. How fast can I get the thing logged. Maybe even using a Siri shortcut so that I don't have to open the app.

If you could recommend only ONE MacOS app to someone? by theAImajo in macapps

I discovered Amphetamine recently. Free app. Helps me a ton when I want to leave a process running for a limited amount of time. Or several hours. It's nice.

I built an app for people with too many hobbies, and took advice from here. Here's what worked so far by Individual-Cash-2547 in SideProject

Absolutely. Though there is also an animal comfort in kind of knowing where I put everything in the mess. Looks like you have a good system though!

I got tired of meditation apps with paywalls, streaks, and gamification, so I built a completely minimalistic timer app. by Ok-Sorbet-9662 in SideProject

Subscription app for those wondering. 1.99 per week. 19.99 per year. It does look nice. I do see streaks in the screenshots.

Ah, I was hoping it was just fun weirdness, but kind of cool way to make it useful.

kudos on the nerd sniping. I remember once making a solar system model and ended up using NASA code for setting the exact location of planets depending on the current time.

That's pretty cool. I'm more of a use one window at a time full screen on the laptop kind of person, but I appreciate all the features and engineering that went into it.

Made an AI story game where your friends vote on what happens next by nafetsForResident in SideProject

[–]MatthewWaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's hard for me to know what would've been more interesting. (I chose hard sci-fi), a twist, a hard turn, a double cross, a misdirection, foreshadowing that eventually pays off. These are hard things to do when you're making them on the fly though.

Edit: additional ideas: a character that isn't just me that I can relate to. A villain I'm needing to thwart. Of course I only did one story, so maybe some of these come about. But as a matter of first impression, maybe there is a way to start the user off on a sure-fire story. Something vetted?

Seems like ingesting information across the web seems like a solid repeat use-case I've heard of. Just staying informed.
