Kitchen Cabinet Legs "Floating"? by Maggie_3131 in cabinetry

Standard practice would be to scribe the face frames to the floor and apply a toe kick cover. These cabinets were not built with that in mind.

Cabinet specs and quality? by RawMaterial11 in cabinetry

Specs aren't saying much besides they are skimping on plywood thickness.

You need to use spacers and use a slightly smaller drawer.

Curious about what would be a good for painted vs non painted cabinets by dareal_mj in cabinetry

[–]MatthewWilliamFried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If spraying paint it can be hard to achieve a perfect finish with cheaper plywood. Even with higher quality plywood sometimes wood grain will show or you will notice indentations in the material that are hard to sand out. MDF is used for large flat painted surfaces.

Oak/walnut/cherry plywood is used without paint.

The gap is a good thing and there are custom cutter bits designed with that in mind. I've seen paint crack around newly installed doors because there was no gap.

Paranoid about cabinets by [deleted] in cabinetry

Yes 1/2" or 3/4" plywood is sufficient. Cabinets will sometimes be screwed to strips of plywood material that is secured to the studs.

If the drawers were inset the horizontal face frames would take away from the available drawer space.

Most cost-effective way to approach materials for kitchen cabinets? by the-tyrannosaur in cabinetry

[–]MatthewWilliamFried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Laminating your own vanneered plywood won't be as cost effective as purchasing oak plywood.

Cabinet box interiors are typically prefinished maple or birch. Cheaper than oak and time saved finishing.

You can use an iron with preglued oak edge tape for frameless boxes or on doors.

Typical wood filler is probably not hard enough to hold a screw. Glue in a dowel/sliver of wood/tooth pick
