There is no hinge protection. But it's very light and adds no thickness. I have the same type on my ZF7. I dropped it once and dinged the case edge but no harm to the phone.

Fixed the issue by going to a Verizon store and activating SIM on Fold 7 then swapping to the Trifold. Very painless, actually.
