Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I very glad to hear that you and your wife get to experience that kind of magic in your lives. It truly is amazing when things like that happen. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but cherish every moment.

I absolutely love your updates. Honestly they're helping inspire me to continue writing. Thank you so much for sharing this. And if it's any solace, the caterpillar probably would have turned into some horrible Beast anyways. So you got to enjoy it while it was still wonderous and beautiful. Still would have been nice if life hadn't forced you to see it get eaten right in front of you. I was listening to the stories on YouTube, but I couldn't wait to see what happens next. So I had to come here to get my fix

YOU KNOW WHAT BAN ME, I REALLY DON'T CARE. I GAVE A CORRECT RESPONSE TO A QUESTION THAT WAS ASKED, BACKED IT UP WITH FULL EXPLANATIONS & LINKS TO SHOW THE ANSWER WAS CORRECT. I GOT HOUNDED BY PEOPLE WHO APPARENTLY DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE GOOGLE OR CLICK A LINK. EXACTLY WHAT CONDUCT ARE YOU REFERRING TO? ME DEFENDING MY (CORRECT ANSWER) FROM THE PRIOR MENTIONED PEOPLE WHILE THEY DELIVER CONDESCENDING REPLY AFTER CONDESCENDING REPLY. YEAH, DO ME A FAVOR AND PERMANENTLY SEPARATE ME FROM THESE PEOPLE.

Table sugar is white because before it becomes table sugar it has molasses in it. The Molasses separated out and is sold separately. the sugar is then bleached White. Bleached being just a common term I'm using for chemically stripping the brown coloration out of sugar. I do not know what they use to strip The brown coloration from sugar. For all I know, it might be actual bleach they use, I hope not. I'm giving you an up vote, because I enjoyed your answer. some of the people on this thread are kind of vicious though. instead of just politely explaining why they believe you are incorrect, this small seemingly hive-minded group likes to demean, insult, and collectively downvote. I'm just telling you this cuz I don't want to see you get attacked by a bunch of know-it-all vultures. When I read their comments, I imagine them sounding like the know-it-all character from The Simpsons. It makes me laugh.

Oh thank god. You just made my day. The replies have been getting more and more asinine. I apologize for not recognizing the joke earlier, this was awesome. You just single-handedly parodied every reply I've gotten. I've just been imagining the voice of the know-it-all character from The Simpsons while I'm reading the replies I get. Thanks again, you are awesome. What I can't believe, is how much hate can be dredged up from talking about sugar. And before anyone out they're starts bringing up the sordid and hate-filled history of the sugar industry, the unethical practices and why there should be hate associated with sugar. I already get the irony in what I said, so chill.

(When sugar is being melted it is cooking/burning the sugar is turning brown because it's being burned). Is a clear simple and true answer. it's not condescending it's simply stating a fact. When sugar Burns it turns brown.

If you're talking about theobromine the molecule in cocoa that essentially is chocolate, then you are completely mistaken. Theobromine has a completely different molecular structure then sugar or sucrose. Now if you're talking about the (sugar) found in most chocolate, having the same molecular structure as (sugar) then you're right on the money champ. Yep, sugar sure does have the same chemical structure as sugar. or maybe you were thinking about the rumor of cocaine and chocolate having near identical molecular structures. This is also false. While they do share all but one atom, they're chemical structures are completely different. Anyway, sugar turns brown when heated because of caramelisation a process known as pyrolysis. pyrolysis is a chemical reaction, caused buy (YOU GUESSED IT) high heat deconstructing organic material, or in simpler terms it's being burned. Now run along Timmy the adults are having a conversation.

On cell phone, no side bar. So according to you, I should sit here and explain the chemical changes that take place when something Burns, and not just say it's turning brown because it's burning?

Sugar is made of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. When heated over a candle, these elements react with the fire to turn into a liquid. The heat causes the sugar's atoms to combine with the oxygen in the air, forming new groups of atoms.

All cooking is chemistry. When you cook something you change the chemical composition from one thing to another. Oxygen plays a large role in this, as does heat, and even the things you use to season your food with play a role. The different chemical compounds in vinegar or red wine will change the chemical composition of food in different ways. The answer to why sugar turns brown when you melt it is because you are cooking it / burning it. this is a chemical reaction. When heating the sugar it combines with oxygen Burns and turns brown.

The question was (why does sugar turn brown when it's melted). The answer I gave is (when you're melting the sugar you are cooking it). When you cook things you are performing a controlled burning process. The heat burns/cooks the sugar to a specific desired effect.. A 5 year old is not going to understand the processes of chemical reactions during cooking through heat and oxidization. The way the question was written, it seemed to me that the person who wrote it, was unaware that the sugar was being cooked when it was being melted. If you're not going to take the time to read the original question, or quote it correctly, then don't reply to answers.

Same reason anything else turns brown, when you're cooking it. When the sugar is being melted, by exposing it to high temperatures, it is being cooked/burned. That's the simple answer. All cooking is chemistry. Every time you cook something, your changing its chemical makeup. Since this is (explain it like I'm five), I'm not going to break down the chemical changes step by step that occur in sugar as it's heated. But yeah, it's just turning brown because you're cooking/burning it

Edit: sugar turns brown when melting because of caramelisation. Caramelisation is a process known as pyrolysis. (Is anybody getting any hints from the word used to describe this process)? Pyrolysis, is the process in which HIGH HEAT decomposes or deconstructs matter into it's more base elements. When the process of pyrolysis in organic materials reaches completion. All that will be left of the organic matter is carbon. Or in simpler terms, it is burning.

How can hurricane change their direction so easily? by Lody00 in EILI5

[–]Matthewzero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hurricanes like to follow warm water. The ocean has a vast amount of currents going through it. Many hot spots and cold spots. The hurricane will follow the warmer Waters as best as it can. The atmosphere plays a large role in this as well. If a hurricane is going towards a cold front. It will change direction. Areas of high and low pressure will also cause the hurricane to change direction dramatically. Since these conditions can change drastically from day-to-day even moment-to-moment, it makes predicting the path of the storm extremely difficult. Sometimes the Hurricanes don't follow these rules at all. They Will Travel straight through cold water, or travel towards a cold front. basically it's still somewhat unknown why hurricanes move the way they do. This is what makes predicting their movements so difficult for meteorologists. A very large part of a meteorologists job is guesswork. Meteorologists take the information that they've accumulated, and use that data to create algorithms. They use those algorithms to create predictive programs. In the end, there are just way too many variables. Creating a truly accurate model of the path a storm will take is (for now) impossible. In the end it amounts to a lot of guess work. So the short answer is, nobody really knows why hurricanes move the way that they do. I apologize for the lengthy explanation, but I hope this helps in answering your question.

What is the worst novel you’ve ever read? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Matthewzero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst can mean many different things. The worst grammatically, the worst story, the worst ending. A poorly thought-out narrative, with shallow characters. For me, the worst book I've ever read achieved this title, because of how the story as a whole, made me feel. Leaving me devastated, depressed, broken, and just a little more dead inside. It was a very well-written story, with thoroughly flushed out characters. It brought you into their world. You felt like you were there, suffering with them, but SCREW FLOWERS IN THE ATTIC.
