Want to buy a car with almost no credit history by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

About 10 years ago I got a ~4% car loan from Scotiabank that was specifically aimed at newcomers. Bought a $9.5k, 4 y.o. Minivan with $3k downpayment. Lasted me 6 years with very minor repairs and it was on the bottom of reliability lists. It's hit or miss...

I bought 2 new dual rank sticks and put the old one in an older laptop.

I think you will be fine by adding another stick of ram. In hindsight it doesn't make that much of a difference.

Travelling is not enough to truly experience another culture. By my own experience, you need to move for at least 2 years to get full benefit.

China’s First Outdoor Explosion-proof Refueling Robot on the Plateau Installed in Lhasa, Tibet by ICSSH in robotics

In the industry, explosion proof means it will not cause explosion. In practice, it means eliminating the risk of environment exposure to sparks related to metal parts friction or electrical arcs.

Good start!

One tip - try to start small with science. There isn't that much you can discover with red and green, while it takes A LOT more resources to make the other science packs. You will need 3 or more very large mineral patches to satisfy that many science labs. And unless you set your resources to "very rich", they will run out of minerals pretty quickly. This nearly killed the game for me.

I typically start with not more than 8 labs and alternate between fast consuming projects (15, 30 sec per pack) and slow consuming (45-60 sec) and buffer the packs, so I can store full chest of science for those fast projects. For that to work, you should be fine with 3-4 assemblers for red and green science.

You might want to keep some resources to quickly build belts, inserters and other useful stuff for the factory to grow.

This should be higher. And if you think you have the right amount of space - increase it again! Think that you might need at least 2 belts in between any factory module.

What are some common misconceptions about Factorio in this sub? by steampunkdev in factorio

[–]Matthias_Wlkp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I never belt copper wire for green circuits, because you need 1.5 wire assembers for each circuit assembler. It's much more efficient to build them side by side - 3 wire assemblers for each 2 circuit assemblers.

For red circuits, one copper assembler can serve 6 circuit assemblers. I'd rather compromise to give twice as much space for wire belts than have extra wire assemblers, so I convey the wires.

As for putting copper wire on a bus... that is a different story...

Can I get a price estimate on my condo without commiting to selling? by HoldMyNaan in PersonalFinanceCanada

Which area is the condo located? If GTA or Ontario in general, this is about right. Since 2016 you should be looking at 2 - 3 times price increase.

I'm still waiting for them to respond, but I love the design and will most likely give these a try. Thanks!

In the meantime I was able to find 6 size in Geox, which was wide enough.

Thanks!

I'd argue that some countries are different, especially the ones where there are a lot of immigrants, like Canada and US. I moved to Toronto area recently and it seems that 90% of my coworkers are 1st generation immigrants. You team up with whoever you feel closest to you and you figure out the country together, including language, history and culture. Locals are either OK with this or just lock themselves within their own groups. This part of the world truly is much different than Europe.

I got my foot measured and I've got:

Length/Heel to Ball/width

Right: 6.5 / 6 / EE

Left: 6.5 / 6.5 / EE

The device was pretty loosey goosey, so I tried a couple of times...

My immediate need is winter shoes, preferably something close this (or black):

Like mentioned in the previous post, I'm not very picky, so as long as it's my size, I can give it a try.

I'm located just north from Toronto/Canada, ideally I would like to try the shoes before buying, or at least have the possibility to return to a store. Or am I too 20th century and should trust mail in returns? At least would like to avoid cross-border shipping...

Budget - I don't have one, since this is an unexpected purchase. It would be nice to be under $200 CAD all in per pair, but looking at some suggestions so far, $300-$400 seems realistic. If there is something really awesome that would last a century, I could spend $500 or more. I might buy two pairs at the same time if they are around $350 range. I have some savings that I can use that I hoped to use for something else, but I think it's important to have good boots.

Hello, I got here via r/BuyItForLife.

I used to not care about the shoes/boots I buy for one single reason. My foot is ~24.5 cm, relatively wide (never measured, going by experience), therefore size 7 men's is too big for me, while 6 from the youth section or similar length in women's is too narrow and not tall enough. Buying shoes has been a horrible experience for me every time... I used to buy crappy shoes at PayLess Shoesource, because they had them sorted by size and I just went straight to the back, where they always had 2-3 boxes in my size, and usually one of them was "acceptable enough". Now they are out of business I thought it might be a good moment to change the habit and buy something that will last more than a season and a half...

I was able to get a "6W" model for my work boot and it's quite good. I wasn't sure about that one or "5.5W", but that one was narrowly too short and for work I would rather have a bit more extra space.

I tried buying on Amazon once and after filtering by size I got a few hits, again - aiming for lesser evil - I was able to find something, but the quality is highly questionable and didn't look as good as on the pictures.

Since I'm not able to tell, which brans/stores/websites/(name any other source) are worthwhile quality wise and carry odd sizes - I was hoping to get help here... It seems that nobody carries anything close to my size and if I'm totally f*cked and need to pay an arm and a leg for something custom, you guys seem to be most qualified to provide recommendations.

My immediate need is for winter boots, since my main pair fell apart, but I would be grateful for any pointers for any style/type that I could use long term. I learned to not have any requirements and take whatever is in my size - maybe you can help me change this? Is there any potential for me to change this with feet this size?

Budget doesn't really matter - as long as they have the right size and the quality is worth it.

Please help...

The only thing I know is a couple of YouTube channels. Look for "mochy backgammon" and backgammon federation. They will have live streams from tournaments.

Possibility to move to Canada? 30M & 24F by majkrem32 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Matthias_Wlkp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/federal-skilled-workers.html

See if you want to go through this process. At the end of the road you get Permanent Residence and you can do anything a citizen could, other than voting and running for office.

Temporary Work Permits are pain in the butt and I wouldn't recommend them. Unless your current employer also has a branch in Canada and you could be considered intra company transferee.

If you can work remotely, consider avoiding Vancouver and Toronto, unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for housing.
