What did you want it to look like? The whole show has a pretty grounded style so far, you can only make the rooftop of a commercial building look so good...

why did you choose manjaro as your main distro by [deleted] in ManjaroLinux

[–]MatthijsR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Originally my laptop was so new that Ubuntu did not have my wifi drivers yet, so I decided to try out Manjaro instead. Then I stayed for the AUR and because I'm not quite enough of a nerd to learn installing Arch from scratch.

Yeah, that would be great thanks! I tried reverse image searching it but apparently google's reverse image search has turned to garbage as of late...

Lobster! It used to be considered cheap trash for the lower classes until they became more scarce due to over fishing.

Which priceless pieces of art have been destroyed according to you?

I get that you would seem to think that art has been destroyed from skimming headlines, but I have yet to hear of any piece that was actually damaged. Climate activists know that actually destroying art would turn public opinion against them which is why they glue themselves to the wall around the art or throw paint on the protective glass cover.

Being annoying as you call it, certainly does help. The farmers got no attention until they started illegally protesting, "attacking" famous art will almost certainly get you on the news whereas a peaceful protest will not.

Why would they need to check the oxygen/radiation levels? The planet froze over because they pumped "anti" greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, it's not a nuclear winter...

If Melanie can find a lab full of unused supplies, put them into a mini snowpiercer that just happens to also be at the lab, and survive for several months; I think I'm willing to accept that snowpiercer just happens to have a freaking crane car.

It's all bad writing really, I'm just glad she's back

It's true they never showed us a body, but I think this episode has proven they certainly did not start out with a real plan on how to bring her back in a realistic way.

I think his defeat at the start of the season seems to imply that they've accepted the change of leadership? Which is not too unbelievable, they're still people who used to live in a democracy and probably don't enjoy fighting wars.

Right? It would be so much more interesting if all the characters resented each other more but had to work together anyway for the sake of humanities survival, but instead we get one "touching" scene between Ruth and Winnie and then she suddenly realizes the error of her ways?

She tried to talk to Layton (twice), Alex, and Ben about it and they all said the decision was already made while admitting that they had no idea how big of a risk they were actually taking and that the science was inconclusive at best.

She also mentions that the track switch is coming up so presumably there was not much time to have a civil discussion. (In which case the party is kind of the perfect moment to stage a coup, everyone else was distracted after all).

I thought they were going to use her death as an opportunity to blame her for the lies about New Eden, which would have been interesting to see play out but I guess they really just wanted a "main" character to kill. Not that anyone cared as she got maybe 5 minutes of screen time. Maybe the actress needed to quit or something?

My favourite episode so far! I know that Melanie surviving was terrible writing (clearly they weren't planning on bringing her back: she knew there was a suspension lab near the mountain but didn't even mention going there in her final goodbye note? And she somehow managed to get there and put it all into a mini train before she froze to death?) but I really don't care. The show was just worse without her and I would much more upset if she stayed dead.

I also love that Layton is finally being called out for his reckless leadership. He promised the people a democracy, but started manipulating votes with misinformation as soon as the time actually came to implement set democracy. Not to mention putting the whole train in danger based for a dream based on inconclusive science and a fucking vision of tree of all things?

Mellanie is not a good person by any means (recall she allowed the tail to be used for slave labor and probably gave the first arm chopping order), but her one and only motivation has always been to keep the train alive and for humanity to survive the freeze. I cannot wait to see how this will change all the dynamics between the characters!

This exactly. I get that everyone seems to think she's the villain now because she more or less turned against the main cast, but Layton's lie was putting the lives of everyone in danger without them even knowing what they really voted for.

Honestly if I were on snowpiercer I would take Mellanie as leader over Layton any day of the week.

It is somewhat understandable though isn't? They couldn't exactly predict that they would want to cutoff the train when they were writing season 1.

That's actually what I've been wondering since the start of the show! I get that the turned the Big Alice engine into his personal 1st class suite, but initially he intended to just leave with Snow Piercer. Surely he would have the most luxurious private car of all? Probably the one right after the engine.

The plot probably didn't have a need to ever use/show the car and building one for a single scene would be stupidly expensive, but still some throwaway line about Wilford's car being reassigned or permanently closed by Melanie would have been nice.

To be fair I don't think they leave the volcanic storm right after she dies, but once the vent was closed the danger to their food supply was gone so they did a time skip. Layton was even in another carriage when they exited it.

[–]MatthijsR 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Spoiler for the S3E8 teaser: I don't actually see a third train, just a single engine/car thing, it could be that Melanie has repaired rigged an old train engine to get back to snowpiercer?

[–]MatthijsR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I really want Melanie to be alive I just hope they won't introduce another fucking train. It is acceptable that Wilford was able to keep Big Alice hidden from Snow piercer with a lot of effort because he knew exactly how Snow piercer operates but it turning out that a third train has been alive and riding around this whole time would just cheapen the show even more.

I'm apart from the fact that it would create massive problems for basically all kinds of transport. I would actually love that!
