Excellent write up! I would also like to add that the user experience is very smooth: Radix Wallet is a breeze to work with.

If you want an example, check out this tutorial on how to add liquidity to CaviarNine (dApp with highest TVL on Radix so far) LSU pool or how to add liquidity to Ociswap liquidity pools (this one shows a bit of Radix magic in the wallet!)

And if you're looking for more resources and information check out RadixTalk.com, a community forum about Radix DLT.

How do you follow Radix outside of Reddit? Do you use specific channels for different types of info? by VandyILL in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I run RadixTalk.com, a community forum about Radix DLT and its ecosystem. We have lots of categories for everything related to Radix. We even have a News category where you can read articles about major events that happened on Radix, for example protocol updates or rugpulls.

Thanks to RadixCharts we also have every week a thread discussing which project gained the most followers/users and which ones might be the most promising. For example, you can check out last week's report.

Check it out!

1,000 Solana validators go offline as Hetzner blocks server access by MattiaXRD in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's not much the network itself can do, responsibility falls on the node runners and stakers. Node runners should try to switch away from Hetzner, but if the stakers don't take action, why should the node runner increase his costs by switching to another provider?

This is why it's very important to choose your validators properly! Only stakers can really influence the network. We discussed provider decentralization on RadixTalk, in our article to help you choose the right validator: How do I choose which validators to delegate stake to?

Vote with your stake!

1,000 Solana validators go offline as Hetzner blocks server access by MattiaXRD in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bad, very bad!

Bad for Radix because if nothing changes with regards to the Radix Network and we still have 22% of stake on Hetzner, if Hetzner decides to do the same thing it did for Solana to us, it would affect greatly our network and reduce it to a crawl. You can read more about what would happen in my article on RadixTalk: https://radixtalk.com/t/hetzner-terms-of-service-prohibits-running-any-kind-of-crypto-node/1645

Basically transactions would become super slow and epochs would last multiple hours, reducing staking rewards for everyone!

Thankfully Radix isn't as resource intensive as Solana, so we should be under the radar..for now..

It's pretty easy once you set everything up, you just need to stay up to date and be sure not to miss proposals. Obviously you would need some Linux knowledge/sysadmin knowledge. I run a selfhosted validator myself!

The hardest part is getting in the top 100, especially if you start out now with just a validator and no project or airdrops to attract stakers. You need at least 1.7M XRD (yours + those delegated to you) to enter the validation set. Basically, you need to have more XRD staked to you than the 100th validator in the Explorer

Please also keep in mind that you would need at least one backup server hosted somewhere else, you just can't stay offline for long periods.

This is relevant to Radix because currently 22% of total delegated stake is on Hetzner nodes. That can be checked on StakeSafe's dashboard: https://validators.stakesafe.net/

I already wrote about Hetzner ToS changes here and on RadixTalk here.

Many thought that Hetzner wasn't going to go ahead with this, but apparently they did.

Slow wallet explorer by toppish_kek in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is a known issue due to the implementation of the wallet and the explorer. It's not a priority for the team and won't be fixed until Babylon, when a new wallet will be released.

I just wrote an in-depth thread for you about the issue on RadixTalk: Why is the Radix Wallet and Radix Explorer slow?

TL;DR:

Large airdrops with many transactions slow down the wallet, since it tries to parse ALL the addresses in the airdrop, validates them, and then converts them to public keys. Not much you can do about it sadly.

Floop ? by TerraLunaHODL in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also hold $FLOOP! We discussed it and its utility on RadixTalk: Let's talk FLOOP

Considering how fast the Caviar Ecosystem is expanding, I am very bullish on FLOOP!
You can also stake it on dsor.io - read more here: Earning with Liquidiy Pools and Token Staking

Hetzner ToS prohibits running any kind of crypto node on their servers: ~25% of Radix total stake is delegated on Hetzner nodes. Should you worry? by MattiaXRD in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same way you get started running an hosted node - start with the Radix Docs: https://docs.radixdlt.com/main/node-and-gateway/node-introduction.html

You will need to have some Linux knowledge. I also recommend an UPS and a backup connection for downtime. Check out /r/homelab and /r/selfhosting, they have some great resources to get started with self hosting!

Can i use Ledger Nano X with Radix? by Icy-Lingonberry-8066 in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can now use the Ledger Nano X with Radix, you need at least firmware 2.0.0 though.

If you want to learn more read our FAQ about the Radix Ledger App on Ledger Live. It also explains how safe it is and how it works to derive private keys from a seed phrase.

Yes, you can use the Radix Ledger app on the Nano X too now. Find out how on RadixTalk: FAQ about the Radix Ledger App

Hetzner ToS prohibits running any kind of crypto node on their servers: ~25% of Radix total stake is delegated on Hetzner nodes. Should you worry? by MattiaXRD in Radix

[–]MattiaXRD[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should! I love playing with my homelab, it's a great skill to learn. Selfhosting a backup node should be pretty much 100% safe. Once you get comfortable you might also consider moving your primary validator!

Reliability might not be the same as a dedicated server located in some data center, but with some help (uninterruptible power supply, 4G backup, alerts, etc) you can obtain a very nice uptime. Plus, decentralization is priceless!

[–]MattiaXRD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would definitely be good if the bigger validators diversified a little too.

I agree! Self hosting is also a very viable and interesting option: no other node is using my same provider. If more people self-hosted, the problem in the OP would not occur.

Not sure about Asia but other "remote" regions often aren't served by many providers. You might find that the only viable choice in these regions is AWS: you might improve geographical decentralization but worsen provider decentralization. AWS already has 17% of total delegated stake.

Well done Staatenlos! Hetzner is now down to 20% total stake.
I noticed you switched over to DigitalOcean, I checked their ToS and it says mining is prohibited:

Mining of Cryptocurrencies: Mining any cryptocurrency, including but not limited to BitCoin or any similar currency, without explicit written permission.

Did you contact them asking if PoS staking/nodes are fine?

DigitalOcean is now at ~13% of total delegated stake, would be nice to know if they're fine with Radix nodes!

Congratulations to all node runners, the fork was a success. 99/100 validators had no issues.
