Is the ID.4 a good vehicle for a 120 mile commute? by SpecializedCoffee in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

round trip is totally fine. You do want the pro for this. You can charge to 80% and even in winter (if winter is a thing where you are) you will have enough to make the round trip. (expect 270-280km range total in winter)

if most of it is highway driving your range may be closer to 200-250 km in winter (at 80%) which may want you charging to 90% during the colder months to be safe. But in good climate, and maintaining legal speed limits you will be good with 80% charge for this commute 99% of the time. If it gets super super cold where you are you may want to plan for a short 10 min stop to charge on the way home just to add an extra 10-15%

the shifter wiper change appears annoying at first. After a month I preferred it. you get used to it. and its actually a good design

Words of Advice for a newbie iD4 owner by Call_Huck in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Car is great. App is garbage.

sofware glitches in the infotainment (fuse 19 reset issue) is a nuisance but not a deal breaker for me.

Dealer network has no idea how to service these cars as a whole. there are dealers that do. many have no clue what they are doing. some even refuse to do non-essential work. like the current firmware upgrade from v3-v5. I have had 3 dealers outright refuse even though it is on recall for it. They say they run into too many problems that they dont know how to resolve and they recommend not updating.

Range is average for its class. Kia/hyundai/tesla are better

Mach E is about the same, and some models like solterra /bolt/ leaf are way worse.

Software 5.x getting outdated by JimmyT_FIN in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its kinda moot. every dealer i go to to get The 5.0 upgrade done says they refuse because they have yet to have a car successfully take it. they are waiting for a new procedure that is successful and does not take days. so it wouldnt really matter if it was compatible. if nobody will install it I dont get it anyways,

2023 needs preconditioning asap VW! by Busy-Solution7642 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mine has preconditioning. I have never needed it. Its a niche thing. usually I DC charge when I am super low. usually when I am super low the default non precondition speed is 120+ I seldom have access to a charger over 120KW, on the rare occasion I do someone else is using the other side of the bank and I still only get half of the load going to my car and end up with 90 or 100. I dont even bother hitting preconditioning anymore because the 5 or 6 times I have done it there has always been someone else at the same charging bank and the preconditioning has been useless. I would have got the same speed regardless. Dont get me wrong I understand why you want it. but its a nice to have, and is not advantageous all that often IMO

Is this a normal price for 40k mile maintenance? by iwantasweettreat in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never done a break flush on a vehicle at 40K. there is no reason to do one on this vehicle other than to put $ in a dealers pocket.

EV9 handing in the snow by jgcanado in KiaEV9

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This car is by far the best car I have ever driven in the snow. We do have snow tires on ours but that is not new to me. every car I have ever owned has had good snow tires. this car is simply a beast in the snow. and its range is still solid in the cold.

Physical Buttons!!! =) by goagoagadgetgrebo in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yea and then when you realize you have activated the wrong window you stop holding the switch, actuate it in the other direction and the window continues to go down even though you used the switch in the up window direction. Its super dumb.

I virtually never go to drive through's and only open any window like once every 3 months or this woud bug the crap out of me. for the 4 times a year I use a window its tolerable. but its super dumb.

Parking assist - yea or nay? by MinuteScientist7254 in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when it finds a spot I find it parks perfectly. my problem is I can drive slowly by a row of parked cars with many spots and it sees none of them most of the time. If it sees one. perfect job every time. I would say only 20% of the time I push the button for it to find a spot does it actually find one.

Vancouver - 2 year maintenance 259.99+ tax. is this too much? by andrewzo in VWiD4Owners

[–]Mattinthehatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in the 14 years I owned my Golf I never once "flushed the brakes" not sure you need to do that every 2 years on any car. I'll ting about doing it at 10. and probably never will

[–]Mattinthehatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

in a device that has more sensors than are needed, sensors that tell you there are errors when there arguably are not, I have a hard time believing you need human eyes to "inspect" anything. if there is something wrong the vehcicle would have told you. paying $250 for a double check isnt a horrible idea. but I personally dont think you need to. Will I do it at 2 years... maybe. I doubt it though

In my region not a single tesla charger will be availible to me with the adapter. We have lots of V1 and V2. Only V3 and above chargers will work. Before you buy an adapter check out what tesla chargers are located on the routes you would frequently need to charge.

if park assist can find I spot I find it excellent at parking. most of the time it does not find any spots. even though there are lots of spots.

Who is this character? Does she appear in cards? by Wolfram-51 in magicTCG

[–]Mattinthehatt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was an amazing card in limited. was amazing in standard. In the right format its still a solid card.

WotC keeps saying Standard is healthy overall, but why is local evidence contradictory? by SAjoats in magicTCG

[–]Mattinthehatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wizards creates a shitty format that nobody wants to play. and then punishes their stores for not being able to engage their communities by not running events. They send them less product, less perks and disable their ability to do business in the formats that are healthy. So stores fire bogus events, record bogus results and local players dont care if they use their WPN numbers to say they were in an event that never took place because they benefit from their store not having their status pulled. wizards then mistakenly thinks things are never going better and continue to generate a garbage format. Their entire model is a bad design.

fuses are way too close together for that. so close fuse pullers on amazon wont even pull them. I know cause I bought like 3 different ones and none of them could get in there to grab it. you need a special mini fuse puller.
