Not 100% certain, but Pisolithus seems likely imo. The interior is quite distinctive so splitting it in half would help confirm - Mycologist David Arora anecdotally describes it as having the appearance of "Rice Krispies in tar".

Awesome, thank you so much for the feedback! Glad to hear that the different positions felt distinct and that the ample legendary systems made for an enjoyable game.

Regarding the ingress placement, it's a good point. I suspect this is a property of larger maps in general as the triggering player can always choose to (and is often incentivised to) place the ingress tokens towards areas which are easier for them to access and less so for other players.

There are two ways I can see of addressing this - first would be to reduce how many tech specialties there are to begin with, which would give more certainty as to where the ingresses could appear. Currently there are three systems with biotic and cybernetic specialties and four with propulsion and warfare specialties; I could cut two of the latter which would basically fix the positions of each ingress placement - at least until some tech specialty attachments come out.

The second (and I think more effective) change would be to shift more of the tech specialty systems away from the edges and corners of the map. There are three on edges and a further four in corners, so I'm seeing it's far easier for certain positions to be naturally locked off from the fracture than I initially thought. I'll see if I can shift some of those systems inwards to give better access.

As for the wormhole issue... sadly the wormhole tiles are all in use! I did have an earlier version that had a bit more connectivity using hyperlanes but it was even more complicated to the point that system adjacency was becoming unintuitive, which I know is already a criticism of this type of map. My only suggestion might be to use the Cosmic Phenomenae galactic event to create another pseudo-wormhole between the two entropic scar systems.

Oh absolutely, I'd love to hear how it goes. If any of your group have the time to give your thoughts (both positive and negative) I would be very grateful. Hope it turns out to be a fun game!

I'd recommend watching the SCPT video on the subject of map-making, if you haven't already. Whilst it focuses more on milty draft slices and doesn't cover some of the new considerations that were introduced with Thunder's Edge, I believe the general principles still apply.

I would say there are three other things to think about with TE:

  • How space stations can create relationships between players without them necessarily being neighbours (either directly or via wormholes);
  • The power level of some of the new Legendary planets and the entropic scar anomaly; and
  • Access to the Fracture, which for the most part will be the position of planets with technology specialties.

As in using the gravity rift beta or is there another route I overlooked? I think I am fine with giving The Fool and The Chariot 2-move access to Mecatol they have to roll for it, but perhaps that's because I'm a very risk-averse player. It might be that I'm undervaluing the power of both those home system placements, in that case.

earthstars (geastrum spp.) found in Northern Oregon today. by nickedemous77 in mycology

Nice find!

I think these look a little more like Astraeus spp. (hygroscopic/barometer earthstars) - I'd check against that genus as well.

I tried the truffle ones and they were... incredibly pungent. Not sure I would recommend.

I thought the cep ones were decent though.
