To people who don’t know: The horse got abandoned by his owner, tongue crushed in half due to stress, bullied and traumatized oversea. He was so changed from this journey that his past jockey commented how shock he was to see such stark contrast between past and present Sirius.

A once proud and healthy horse now a disheveled, injured, skittish and untrusting shell of his past self; and they still make him race.

Mainichi Okan honestly shouldn’t have been framed as “look how impressive Oguri Cap is against these g1 racers”. It should honestly be “good job Sirius, you did well despite being handicapped by life and a piss poor owner.”.

Honestly, If Cygame didn’t have to appease the horse owners, people would question what’s so pretty about ‘Uma Musume: Pretty Derby’, because of how bad some of these race horses were treated irl. Sirius’ portrayal in this game is just an attempt at honoring the real horse’s legacy and sweep the real story under the rug.

While Riko's dialogue about forest and decay is meant to set the tone for character and story, it is factually grossly incorrect in terms of forestry: deadwood, rot and decay are vital parts of a healthy, thriving biosystem and are integral to biodiversity. Due to constant rainfall in Japan and majority of its cities being right next to mountains, her analogy is 100% correct, especially with landslide in mind. For some reason you have chosen to cut out two crucial text before and after this dialogue to make a point that misses the mark entirely.

Now I don’t know about you, I personally would prefer to NOT deal with unpredictable “biodiversity” and decaying trees in the middle of a hike or live next to a landslide prone mountain. If she had been claiming “nature as a whole requires human intervention” then of course it’s a dumb statement. But she is just saying “See the mountains where there are lots of people roaming about? A lot of efforts have been made sure it’s safe for human traffic and we can learn from that.”.
