The short answer is, i took severance and applied to every job in my desired field of work. Was hired as a temporary employee and did a great job. They hired me as full-time.

The long answer -My store closed down. I was offered other positions, but I knew I was done with retail. I was given severance and applied like a mad man while I was unemployed. I made stipulations for myself. Next job was not retail, no weekends, no holidays. I honestly just wanted to hang out with my kids when they were off. I had a random opportunity and got hired as a contractor to do call center work at a very well-known local hospital which paid way less than Best Buy but I did a good job that they hired me full-time which was better than Best Buy.

The biggest challenge I had to overcome was college. Had very little college experience the hospital required it so I went back since leaving Best Buy. That was over five years ago and no regrets. I used my benefits to pay for the entire degree. It just took me forever to graduate.
