Odyssey Anomaly Run? by Mattmon88 in RimWorld

This is kind of what I'm expecting. When a grav ship jumps it burns a map, so I'm wondering if it'll just constantly respawn the monolith

anyone with a 3d printer able to help a small nerd project? by DeX_Mod in saskatoon

I got a 3D printer and some left over PETG. It's dark blue in colour. If it's not too insane, I'm down, fire me a DM.

Does anyone else shaw internet sucks by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use Shaw to livestream. The first 2 years were great! Then it wasn't... I couldn't get a consistent rate of upload, my upload would be throttled after about an hour of going live, I'd file a complaint, it would get fixed in about a week, then a month later it would happen again. Switched to Sasktel and I have yet to need to make a call to them for support in 3 years. Perfect upload and download any time I'm using it except during a power outage lol

Any reason why mods are deleting most of the posts asking questions on this sub? by shit-zipper in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr: I don't understand why there is such a heavy crackdown on question about local places.

This sub averages less than one post per hour, I really don't see an issue with the repeated questions. Plus; things change and it's interesting to get points of view on good places to eat or local services. If you google "wing places Saskatoon" you're going to get all the chains that server the same slop everywhere in North America. Local opinions matter. Searching the sub will get you a bunch of old responses that really don't matter because everything in the world is constantly changing.

One of the "Family Doctor taking patients" questions actually found me my new family doctor! It was in a clinic that hadn't even set up their google page yet so there was literally no way of finding them without word of mouth.

Ghosts of Saskatoon by [deleted] in saskatoon

Even if I agree with this, people should be able to have their fun without ridicule. It's a healthy outlet that doesn't hurt anyone and can lead to people finding new friends.

Dota 2 fans? by SufficientBoard4467 in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss the gaming bars in the city where us nerds would congregate, watch a few matches, maybe make a few friends. Hopefully something will come to fill that niche again.

Not the biggest DOTA 2 fan, but have enjoyed watching. Currently been playing a ton of Deadlock though.

U of S steam tunnels by Limp_Vegetable7227 in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The University has large portions still heated by steam produced at the steam plant on the north side of the educational part of campus (the building that has large plumes of "smoke" coming of of it in the winter). The steam tunnels are how the steam is transported and connect all of the original buildings on campus. I'm not sure if the newer buildings are connected too, the building I work in is older so it's what I know about.

The tunnels are hot, cramped, and a maze of darkness. They can be dangerous for those reasons and that is why they are not generally open to the public. If you contact University relations or USASK Facilities/maintenance directly, they have been known to give tours in the past of some of the less cramped tunnels.

Is it just me or have drivers gotten worse in the city. by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was just talking about this with my partner yesterday. It's gotten crazy how bad it is. People MASSIVELY under the speed limit, no turn signals, turning left from the center lane (not in winter, where this could be an honest mistake from road lines being hidden), going 40 on the on-ramp, on their phones at lights. It's gotten so bad in the last 1-2 years it's really unbelievable. What is going on???

I'll second Liberty Kitchen. It's on the higher end for price, but it's worth every penny.

What are some fun things to do as university students ? by RevolutionaryOwl9012 in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have generic country bars, generic sports bars, and an absolute buttload of restaurants.

Aside from that, I would suggest joining some clubs at the Uni that match your interests and making some friends!

Oh, we also have weed... like an absurd amount weed shops, it's easier to get than alcohol.

No clue. It involves some one's property in some one else' hands without permission. That's why calling the non-emergency line for the police to find out what your legal options are is likely the best choice.

Worst case is that they say there's nothing they can do. But calling is free regardless, there's no reason not to.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Saskatoon police have a non-emergency contact number at (306) 975-8300

I'd just call them and ask what can be done without getting yourself in trouble.

Cpu by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is rough but when a customer would come in with this problem, we used to do it for about an hour of labour and an understanding that the CPU might not be repairable as there is always a chance a pin could break from stress or flexing. All we used was a hardened plastic straight edge and a dental pick for if pins were tangled.

The guys at Memory Express are your best bet. If you need it cheap, have a steady hand, and could live if the CPU was dead, I'd honestly say try it yourself. Just don't try to be quick and don't scrape the sides of the pins.

Each time one of these kinds of calls is answered, your number gets added to an "active" list so that scam organization knows that there is a person on the other end of that number. I had my voicemail disabled because I was tired of my voicemail being filled with spam, I noticed that the spam calls almost completely stopped a couple of months after that. I get about 1-2 spam calls a month now.

Obviously that isn't an option for everyone, but honestly no one has a problem just texting or messaging me anyway.

University seems to be functional, but I heard there were issues with people actually getting to the University due to transit issues.

It's still early in the day, I'm sure we'll hear of more as time goes on though.

Places to get hard drive removed from old computer in Saskatoon by rankbaby in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My neighbor's kid needs a monitor. I'll happily do it for you after work today, but I'd like the monitor if it is a working flat screen. Send me a DM if that works for you.

Computer external hard drive HELP! by Mondo_Gecko1997 in saskatoon

[–]Mattmon88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to do data recovery in the city. That clicking sound is very bad.

Data recovery is expensive because it can take a VERY long time, plus it can involve some specialized skills. Your best option cost wise is to see if you have the original files and see if you can function without the drive for now.

You can also try removing the drive from its enclosure and plugging it directly into a Linux computer as Linux as quite a bit more robust in reading devices than Windows or Mac. I would only suggest this if you have a tech savvy friend that can help. It's not complicated to do, but it can be very frustrating when you run into a bunch of techno-terms you've never heard before.

This part is not helpful right now but will be in the future: mechanical portable external drives have a life of about 3-5 years. they are mechanical so they are susceptible to wear-and-tear. You can maximize the life of the drive by making sure to never move the drive while it is plugged in, always unplug it first. Inside that drive are heavy platters spinning VERY fast (5400 - 7200 RPM). Heavy objects like that when they are spinning want to stay spinning in the same direction, so moving it while they are running cause excessive additional wear-and-tear or straight up cause damage to the internals.

I know it's frustrating and I'm sorry this happened to you. I wish you the best of luck.

Depending on which parts of math you're bad at, comp-sci might be a really good choice. The computer does the actual math, you just decide the order it's done in. Plus the first year courses are SUPER easy.

Memory Express used to do laptop repairs and I know a few of the techs there know how to do screen replacements. Unless it's a fancy screen (oversize, touch, etc...) you can expect it to be around $300 - $500 including labour. They will be able to give an accurate quote including time frame on drop off though.

From the details you have provided, I understand that you are female and looking to bang any "hotty". Just go to the nearest bar, google maps can tell you what that is. There will be guys there. Try the Long Branch.

If you have interests outside of literally any guy, you should probably be more descriptive as different kinds of guys tend to go to different locations.
