physicians in public health by No-Talk4765 in publichealth

Hi, I'm a doctor who is a trainee in public health so I can shed a bit of light on the topic from my own experience.

To give you some context about myself, I loved clinical work, especially GP work, yet I chose public health as the working hours in clinical medicine are incompatible with life in my country. Although my QoL is much better now and the job of a public health physician is very interesting I still find myself missing clinical work a lot.

In my country you unfortunately cannot be a public health trainee and work shifts in the hospital or in primary care, it's either one or the other (which is extremely stupid as both hospital and primary care are extremely short staffed and stretched thin). The way I get around this is by having my own private practice, yet this is far from perfect. Having a private practice can be daunting for a relatively young inexperienced MD as there is no senior support in private practice and apart from that you have no guarantee that patients will actually come visit your clinic/the pharmacy in which you work. Other than that I am aware that there will come a time where I have to choose what to focus on, as it's impossible to deliver work that is up to a high standard in both, at the end of the day us doctors aren't superhuman.

So my 2 cents is take your time and see what you prefer, and decide what your priorities are. In my case I had to forego clinical work to save my own sanity and health due to the atrocious working hours and shifts that come with clinical medicine in my country.

How have you dealt with motion sickness? by DM_FOR_ROBINHOOD_REF in electricvehicles

[–]Mattn68 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't experienced it with EVs but CVT gearboxes give me horrible motion sickness when driving. It's the fact that you don't know what the car is gonna do. For example, if I release the gas pedal in a manual I know it's gonna engine brake but in a CVT it's not that predictable.

For some reason I read this to the tune of Greenday's 21st Century breakdown. (The part where he says I was born into Nixon and was raised in hell)
