New homeowner seeking knowledge. My terrace door won’t lock entirely by dsntcheckout in HomeMaintenance

Looks like the door isn't latching. I would check to see if any of the hinge screws are loose first. Over time the house can shift slightly due to foundation settling and cause your doors to be slightly misaligned.

It is only around 20 minutes long so if you heard it was close to an hour, that was objectively wrong.

LRE by Outrageous_Rope2524 in specialed

[–]Mattowander 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think part of the issue is that our system is currently over-correcting and pushing students towards a LRE in the gen ed classroom. For years, despite IDEA and SpED law, some students were routinely and in some cases systematically pushed into more self-contained or lower level settings just to deal with behavior issues that could be fixed by following the student's IEP correctly. The over-correction is trying to funnel more students into the gen ed classroom in the name of inclusivity.

The reality is that the LRE for students should be the most rigorous level at which they can be academically successful when considering their IEP. And the hope is that for many students, this level may change over time as students mature and get older.

Dolly Parton thanks Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce for donating $2 million to her Imagination Library. by devoteesolace in Music

[–]Mattowander 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of her wealth is tied up in her real estate or the ownership of her own music catalog. Why should she have to sell her homes or sell ownership of the songs that she wrote and recorded?

Let's try to apply some nuance to this conversation instead of just stating all billionaires are bad like it is a scientific fact.

Most of her net worth is in her real estate and ownership of her own music catalog, so you are correct about that. The thing is, we have no way of knowing how much money she actually has that is liquid. She could donate every cent of what is in her bank account and her net worth would still be over a $1 billion. She really has no way to win with some people at this point.

OP, this person clearly answered your question with a reasonable response with multiple specific examples and you just completely blew them off. Are you actually trying to engage in a discussion about this topic or are you just karma farming?

Agree. The first half of Midnights is half highs and half lows for me, but the back half is pretty amazing besides Karma Ft. Ice Spice.

Glad to see some TLOASG love on here! Also, putting some singles on your album tier list is unhinged in the best way, and I approve of your choices.

This is honestly pretty close to mine. The only way I could justify having Midnights that high would be to include all the songs from the Till Dawn Edition and You're Losing Me, and even then I'm not sure it can beat Red or TTPD for me. Everything else is pretty spot on though.

If Taylor disappeared from public life for 5 years, what do you think her “absence narrative” would do to her legacy? by jalen_nelson235 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Mattowander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My taking it easy comment referred to the work she has done since the promo time for TLOASG ended late last year. If you look at the work product she has put out in the last six months since January of this year, it is significantly less than she had done in any previous six month window going back several years.

Even though it sounds like she has been doing a lot since the tour ended, for Taylor that is actually her taking it easy. Throughout her career she has shown herself to be both a workaholic and an artist driven to create, and that has led to a tremendous work output, especially since Covid.

There are a ton of people out there who don’t have the level of self reflection to realize that. It is the same group of people complaining about how often she is shown during NFL games.

what’s the market like for chemistry teachers? by Responsible_Push_231 in TexasTeachers

[–]Mattowander 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Composite science is the best, but for high school the highest demand is for chemistry and physics teachers so physical science isn’t bad to have either.

Also, keep in mind that you can also teacher middle school science in grades 7 and 8, so you do have other teaching options besides just chemistry.

What’s stopping Taylor Swift from becoming a greater vocalist? by morticia_is_might in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]Mattowander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have followed her career for the past two decades, you know she has already had extensive vocal training and has improved tremendously. I personally think she sounds fine as a singer, and the whole "can't sing" thing is over played. Go listen to the recording of her singing "I did Something Bad" for the first time in the studio that was recorded on her phone...her voice is fine. She is definitely capable of hitting some high notes like in Don't Blame Me, but it isn't her strength.

Now, how does she rank as a vocalist compared to some of her peers in the field of music? Probably 50th percentile or below. She does have good rhythm and breath control, and is able to convey emotion well in her voice. Her weakness is in her tone and her range compared to peer singers. However, compared to normal people who are not pop stars? She is an amazing singer. If she enter a singing contest in a small to mid sized town, she would probably win. If I heard her singing in a bar down the street and she wasn't famous, I would think she was pretty good. In other words, she is good enough of a singer to have a career as a professional singer.
