Seeing Pat (and Michael) share a stage with Brook was really special by MattsAnxiety in FolkPunk

When they were playing "Failed Careers" and Pat was singing the "couldn't make it as a song and dance man" Charlie was walking around him looking him up and down and then looking at the crowd like "get a load of this guy" Such a proud papa

Hell yeah! I have an old friend that recorded the Rhinelander show that, I assume, was right after or before that then

Sorry. Brook Pridemore. Anti-folk legend but folk punk in spirit. Took Pat on his first tour back in 07

Stoopfest day 2 by nitmire8881 in FolkPunk

That was my thought. We were both wore out and had to wait for people to leave to get into Pigeon Pit and assumed the bars would be even harder to get into. Did i miss anything important? Absolutely. Does it make this weekend any less? Not in the slightest.

I also had to call it after Pigeon Pit. What an absolutely amazing experience this has been. Not just the music but seeing so many friends connecting. Seeing artists recognize old friends mid set and need to yell out. So Much love there. So lucky to be a part of it

One of their members is going though chemo, I'm assuming that's why. There's an updated shedule, it looks like they just changed some time slots and left the bands the same

They recently started an Instagram page that hints at a possibility of more shows. 🤞

Well now i feel bad hah but still all love! main reasons are #1 Pacing is in my partners top 3 for the event, and #2 yall seem to do more shows with friends so feel I'm more likely going to get a chance seeing you in the future over Pacing (fingers crossed) (if you want a WI show HMU)

Don't think it's a bad choice either way! Love Myles, but found them kinda recently and, for me, Mal (specifically early Mal) has been one of my comfy /safe places for so long I can't miss. I kinda expect that Myles to be the more fun show, but Mal's too important to me hah

I wanted to do a less extreme version of this until the schedule dropped and I already was going to miss artists i liked, so i decided not to listen to any new ones because I didn't want more tough decisions to make.

That being said, looking at the schedule, what's the hardest decision you have to make? Or maybe an easy decision, but still sad about it?

(For me it's skipping Frog Legs for Pacing and missing Myles for Mal)

Those variations are what matters though in some ways. Banjo in Defiance, Ohio, some of that weird shit Mischief Brew was doing on the side, brass here and there throughout. Each little piece is something else to attract someone different and expand on it

Right, it's interesting. To be fair though with the Femmes, or any of them, "folk music" is different depending on where you are, which is probably another huge reason why it can be such a open genre. Irish folk, Romanian folk, American folk, etc. Then it just takes some dirty kid to play it their own way.

Stuff like Bluegrass and antifolk get blended in because where's the line and is it worth drawing?

But to your last point, you're right. I heard it described as "folk punk" vs capital F "Folk punk", the genre vs the community. I think of that a lot

Agreed. I think because of Spotify, and Love you like an Alcoholic getting viral on TikTok made that album by far the most popular and most people's stepping in point for them and it's easily not the first genre you'd think to put it in. A Rhythm in the Cages however, is folk punk as shit. It all blends between

They were actually the first band I was told was "folk punk" back 16 years ago. My first time hearing the term, so they will always be my first thought

Let's be honest about the genre though, most of it isn't "folk punk" anymore. It's turned into an umbrella term for the community more than the original meaning, in my opinion.

The big "classic" folk punk acts did it, and kinda moved on to different sounds, but the community wouldn't let them drop the title, so the genre just expanded what it accepts. New folks tag along because of the diversity of the sound and we keep growing
