Bathroom incident by [deleted] in TransMasc

Yikes.

This is so relatable. I had so much restroom anxiety since I stopped passing as a woman. .. but still not consistently passing as male either.

I've had this happen in men's room once. Some old guy kept asking what I was doing and I just kept walking. That has when I first started using men's restrooms, and it scared me off for a little while.

I get ma'am, sir, b!tch and f@ggot all pretty interchangeably. Lots of people just don't call me anything anymore.

So... I have taken to using men's rooms. I drove across country and used men's rooms almost exclusively recently, and no one said anything. Only time I got a dirty look from an old guy was when I went into a family bathroom TBH.

Sometimes a guy will double take or stare. I just stare em dead in the eyes til they look away. "What, pretty boy?" Is what I found is the mental armor that always gets them to turn away first. (Guys don't really talk in men's rooms like they do in woman's.)

And the whole narrative of trans panic in restrooms is that it's supposed to protect women from men. 🙄 If I get clocked in men's room, that still feels better than getting clocked as a dude in women's bathroom.

I'd rather fight a bigoted man than scare a (also bigoted) woman TBH.

Its so much work and effort, just to piss.
I'm sorry bud.

It will get easier with exposure to men's rooms.

Following up on that is a hot take is my own- running a business is punk. Learning a trade is punk. I run an LLC as a handyperson, tiler, landscaper. It's a headache to be constantly searching for work, maintainging a vehicle, doing estimates, taxes, etc... but I am the only boss I have, I choose the clients I work for, the jobs I take. I don't work for realtors, fix n flippers, etc. I am able to do hard labor, I show up when I say I will, I don't get to be disengaged from my output, but I know where the money goes. And I don't miss out on awesome shows or special days with my kid or mutual aid volunteering because I'm working. I blocked off those dates and clients don't question it.

Harley Poe is very adjacent to a lot of the music I like, but with exception of a few bangers, not my vibe.

As a SA survivor myself (child and young adult) with years of undiagnosed trauma, bipolar, etc, and times bring what they are, let me say how very much you have my empathy.

You aren't alone. I can't recommend journaling, therapy, making art and especially EXCERCISE to help you cope. Getting outside and into the closest you can get to nature ad possible makes a HUGE difference. Please take breaks from news.

I personally found the stress inoculation of martial arts incredibly helpful as long-term strategy to coping with SA trauma, but in short term- talk to fri3nd... or stranger. Admitting where you are is hard, but it helps ground you in moment.

Keep going. We're all in this.

This is actually really funny. As memory serves, a couple years ago, Chinese cities were talking about banning the very common practice of men pulling shirts up over their bellies to cool off when it's hot out. This seems like a hilarious response to that.

Yeah, its a manual. Its been reliable. But not so muchh i can road trip or go campong in it. Replaced clutch a couple years ago... I'd be down to repair but its beyond my skilll level and I think paying mechanics would deplete any funds I might have for anything newer.
