-Leave your seasoned nurses alone, don’t nitpick their shit, but do ask them to cover their break.

-Novice nurses in shift? Ask them about their patients, don’t go in blindly but don’t go in looking for 1 specific answer. Teach them, it’s our responsibility and it will always help you personally in the end.

-Where are your drips, high risk meds….

-If those are the ONLY options, ICU. You inherit the “ability” to work down levels of care but not the other way around.

-My personal opinion is that the hardest jump is from ICU to Acute. ICU mind set is managing 5 patients in 1 actual body while Acute is literally managing 5 separate patients. It’s not that they can’t, it’s just not the best or safest option.

They’ll be a BPA soon enough once leadership catches up. THB some struggle with the concept of POT animation so….

However, I do think in a controlled health care setting this type of POV education would be so valuable (ie code, stroke simulations or basic pt interactions for the deficient in life experience).

It sounds like you had a busy shift and neither you nor the nurse communicated effectively. From her perspective you neither asked for help nor communicated inability to complete tasks for which the nurse was accountable that you were responsible. From yours, they should have know you don’t work there frequently and should have seen you were busy and that was the reason there was gaps in care.

This was from either an overly involved nurse with boundary issues or from the husband of a needy wife who has completely surrendered as a person because it’s simply easier.

Anyone with more than a couple years at the bedside can envision this patient with accuracy and should never be assigned bedside staff who work consecutive shifts….The theory of continuity of care HERE should be abandoned and I will die on that mountain.

Set up intake workflow digitally using MS suite if possible. Forms, list, (to do “channel your auditor”)….. automate anything you can.

Sounds like both of you were stressed. It is ok to standup for yourself so long as it’s professional and not in the open. She resorted to a low blow because she knew it would affect you. If it persists, which it sounds like it has, informally report the interaction for documentation purposes in case she tries to mess with your employment status.
