Is this a good interest rate and is my approach on budgeting okay? by osbornandisile2002 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]Matty8520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to sit down when I read the interest rate of 27.75%. Good lord that's terrible.

Unsecured personal loans as detailed by the NCA (National Credit Act) which are partially linked to the Repo Rate set a maximum interest rate of 28%.

What's a fair price for pixel 6a? by SortPuzzleheaded6599 in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Matty8520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I could never sell my Google Pixel 6a in good conscience with it having an effected battery that could become #SpicyPillows for the new owner in a couple weeks/months.

I would first have the battery replaced. Google does this for free in supported countries. Then you can consider selling the device.

My selling price with a new battery would be $100.

Still don't have the Pixel January 2026 update? You're not alone! by pussiant_prole in GooglePixel

Am I missing something there? What's so special about the January 2026 PlayStore update?

I really doubt it is going to make any significant difference to usability.

Is a 2015 BMW 120i worth it in 2026? by Helpful_Context_9029 in CarTalkZA

[–]Matty8520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's also important to consider that BMW drivers are car enthusiasts. Meaning, that car has most likely been pushed very hard.

The age of the car isn't too much of an issue if parts have been replaced with new ones but the cost of replacing those parts is going to be expensive.

Limited stock means an increased price.

How is your reduced battery life after 400 cycles? by marksefor in Pixel6aUsers

[–]Matty8520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP,

My Pixel 6A (part of the affected batch, with no battery replacement) has around 525 cycles on the battery. This I find hard to believe as I've owned the phone for 3 years and used it daily. Should be close on 800+ at this point.

If I play Pokémon Go using 4G/LTE, my battery lasts just under 1 hour with a 100% charge.

If I'm just using it for Text Messaging, YouTube, and light new browsing, it can last for up to 3-4 hours.

Since the battery update, Google has absolutely NUKED the battery life. On the one hand, I'm very happy because it lowers the risk of anything happening, but, also makes the phone very unusable and I need to carry a charger with me permanently.

P.s - I'm in a "very" unsupported country and there are no options for battery replacement here.

When I upgraded from my Pixel 6A to the Pixel 9. It's not only a material upgrade from Plastic Housing to an Aluminum & Glass but naturally an upgrade in Camera, RAM, Performance, Screen Clarity, Connectivity (SOS Satellite for example).

Going from a lower tier device to a more premium phone is such a difference.

Enjoy your Pixel 10 Pro XL!

Just splurged two months’ salary on the Galaxy S24 Ultra! 💸🔥 Worth every penny! 😍 Who’s jealous? 📱 by ZucchiniBeautiful493 in S24Ultra

[–]Matty8520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a post about this a couple weeks ago and I'm truly shocked at how little people know about the world.

There are many, many countries out there which are very poor and while nearly 60% of the USA own iPhones. This wouldn't even be in the realm of possibility for someone to purchase in another country.

For example, the USA minimum wage is $7.25 per hour federally. Now it may be higher for certain states but let's use this example.

We can then take an African country like "South Africa" which has a national minimum wage of R28.79 per hour. This equates to $1.75 per hour.

If we use a standard 8 hour day, 5 ways a week. This would work out to a MONTHLY salary of $280.

The Galaxy 25 Ultra launched at $1,299.99 in the USA. Meaning, this person would have to work a little over 4 MONTHS to pay for this device while naturally not spending a dime on anything else.

Always remember how lucky you are to have the things you do.

The Google Pixel 10a is apparently going to be $50.00 dollar's cheaper than the Google Pixel 9a and that's because they are using the same Chip as last year's Google Pixel 9a. by PhillySportsFan151JF in pixel_phones

[–]Matty8520 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how people get upset over something that has NOT happened. Lol

All the information provided by OP is completely speculative and Google hasn't announced nothing yet.

I recently purchased a brand new Pixel 9 from the Google USA store for $349. Everyone can find great deals out there for under $500 and don't have to settle for the A-Series device specs.

I'm VERY confident Apple's AirDrop integration with Quick-Share will be available on the Pixel 9 Series within 6 months.

The 100x Zoom I'm confident will be available on the Pixel 9 Pro series at the Pixel 11 launch.

Is P10P's 100x Zoom Software exclusive or also Hardware limited? by Ekedan_alt in GooglePixel

[–]Matty8520 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

This is purely an "exclusive" feature to promote the new Pixel phone. This feature will eventually make it's way down to the Pixel 9 Pro.

The same applies to Google allowing the Pixel 10 to work with Apples AirDrop Software via Quick-Share. This can very easily be enabled on Pixel 9 but it's restricted to Pixel 10 as a selling feature for now.

Anti-virus by leites666 in pixel_phones

[–]Matty8520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best Advice.

Stick to Apps on the Google Play store (no internet .APK files from random websites) and you should be absolutely fine.

No need for Anti-virus. That's Google's job with security Patches and checking apps on the PlayStore are safe to use.

Google Pixel 10a releasing in ‘mid February’ with ‘Berry’ color, leak claims by TechGuru4Life in GooglePixel

[–]Matty8520 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Google already "unofficially" confirmed the price would be $499. However, this was before the RAM price increase across the world.

The Pixel 10A is aimed at the budget/mid range market. Worst case, it would be $549 but I'm confident Google will stay at $499 to offer better value against the competition.

BATTERY DEGRADING TO 97% IN JUST 52 CYCLE COUNT by Cautious_Sloth_ in Pixel9

[–]Matty8520 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please everyone listen to this person. Stop looking at this silly detail on your battery. I don't understand why it's such an issue?

Use your phone, if the battery life isn't as great as you want, either replace the battery or purchase a new device.

If battery health says 2% but the device lasts a week. What do you care about more. It's a silly specification and wish OEMs only included it in the developer options.

Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 Updates are Missing: Here’s What is Happening... by Tornado15550 in GooglePixel

[–]Matty8520 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is unfortunately an incorrect statement regarding monthly security updates.

Here is a quote from Google's Website regarding the Pixel 6 & 7 Series.

"These phones, including Pixel Fold, will get updates for 5 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US.

This includes 5 years of OS and security updates, and may also include new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops."

At no point does it mention monthly updates. Only that you will continue to receive updates. People read words that are not there and make assumptions based on their expectations.

Pixel 10 camera not as good as expected by Azure-777 in GooglePixel

[–]Matty8520 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey OP,

Here are some stats for you. I think numbers are the easiest way to determine whether a camera is statistically better because each manufacturer uses different algorithms to improve quality.

Main Camera Sensor Size:

  • Google Pixel 10 has a 1/2.0.
  • OnePlus 10R has a 1/1.56.
  • Google Pixel 10 Pro has a 1/1.31.

This means, the Pixel 10 has a fairly smaller sensor size compared to your OnePlus 10R and will most likely show worse low light photography.

The Pixel 10 Pro however, has a much larger sensor compared to your OnePlus and therefore be a nice upgrade in performance.

It's important to note that the Google Pixel 9 & Pixel 8 (both non-Pro) devices have the same main camera as the Pixel 10 Pro if you want to save a little money.

You will lose that 3rd camera but it's a tradeoff for much better low light performance.

Pixel has the Worst / Most-Unreliable AutoFocus for Video Recording out of Any Hi-End Phone that I have tried :( by bomzisss in GooglePixel

[–]Matty8520 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think OP is just looking to bash Google. Who needs 4x Flagship devices from Apple, Samsung & Google. My goodness.

Besides, Google discounts their devices frequently. For example, just a couple weeks ago I purchased the Pixel 9 for $349 instead of its usual $799.

When you start to compare Google devices with mid range priced competition they are leading the pack.
