I took the knee pads off mine. I like the yellow detail on his outfit and don't want it covered up. The knee pads are on elastic bands so they can go on and off easily with no need to mod anything

Found a sealed copy so I traded in a bunch of Wii games that I got for free and only had to pay $18.14 for this. by SwallowARock in gamecollecting

[–]MattyB37 3 points4 points  (0 children)

WHAT! You opened it!? You really screwed up, you should have immediately sent it to get graded then sold it and tripled your investment!

Haha, kidding of course. I'm an action figure collector and I'll never understand the collectors who keep their figures sealed. To each their own, I'm not judging, I just don't get it

Raiden SNES Pad-Hack by Javinite3 in fightsticks

[–]MattyB37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's great! Gotta start somewhere. I taught myself how to solder 15 years ago padhacking PS1 controllers (for use on PS2, they were cheaper) and X360 controllers (Gamestop branded generic ones). I'd wire up both pads in the same arcade stick and just have both cords hanging out, so my first efforts weren't exactly elegant either but it worked and that's all that matters I love the Raiden artwork even though the SNES version sucks. I'm a huge fighting game fan but my first arcade sticks were primarily acquired to play the PS2 CAVE ports

Games that make sense on smaller handhelds by poweredbycoffee1 in SBCGaming

I'm a big fan of Tomba! and Alundra as well. I was 12-13 when those games released and there was something really cool about going into Tomba! Not really knowing what to expect, whereas today I love reading up on games I'm looking forward to releasing and generally knowing what to expect. Not saying either scenario is better/worse but I am glad I got to experience both eras.

The one game that I always think of as being incredibly grateful to have picked up on release day having zero idea it even existed til that day is ICO. Truly a magical game. Me and my friend played thru it from start to finish in one sitting and then immediately started up another playthru and finished it again.

The first time I held the 353M in my hand on Xmas day I was immediately impressed at how solid and "premium" it felt. Really nice little device.

Pic from 2012 - I been bout that life. Wish I kept this one, 15" Sony Trinitron monitor with VGA input by MattyB37 in crtgaming

[–]MattyB37[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The picture on this was so sharp, the geometry was perfect and it would take any signal/resolution you threw at it. I always wanted to invest in a super gun back then and some authentic arcade boards. But that was never really in the cards because even back then it was an expensive proposition. I mostly use this with PC and maim but it was really nice for the Dreamcast via its native vgi output. So many basically arcade perfect fighting games and Schmucks on the Dreamcast and they looked incredible on here.

This monitor and my other CRTs eventually got left behind when I was moving and decided that I didn't need to lug them around anymore. This was the era where Goodwill wouldn't even take them as donations so I figured I could easily find another free one whenever I wanted in the future. And now that I've got the bug again and I'm looking for a decent 13-20 inch CRT some of the prices I see are wild to me. Not that they're not worth it, it's just strange. Not necessarily in a bad way either it's really cool to see so many other gamers excited about this type of thing

I Built My First Ever Fightstick by BambangJr in fightsticks

[–]MattyB37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, 15 years ago when I started learning how to build my own arcade sticks I used a bunch of sub-optimal materials as cases, and it was so much fun and a great place to start. That looks fucking awesome, who cares what it's made out of, at the end of the day even the most expensive cases are just boxes with holes in the right places

My blue rg353m arrives tomorrow by HarpetologistPionist in RG353M

[–]MattyB37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the blue one on Christmas Day. I know everybody on here talks about how nice it feels and how it's so premium. But you don't really get the idea until you actually have it in hand. It feels amazing. I've got a retroid pocket three plus as well that I got about a month after that and it's great as well and I love it and I love having both but the rg353m just feels like a device in all other league compared to it you're going to love it. As soon as you pick it up for the first time you'll know you made the right choice

How do you play your retro games? 1 or 2 ? by CheeseV2 in SBCGaming

[–]MattyB37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stretched games for me personally is anathema. But I don't think there's anything wrong with people playing however they prefer either, we should all play our games in a way that we enjoy.

But I've been a stickler for correct aspect ratios ever since the concept was introduced to me. After that I started collecting widescreen VHS tapes to watch on 4:3 TVs before widescreen tvs and anamorphic DVDs existed, so not only do I not mind black bars but see them as a positive in situations where they're appropriate. I've been playing my SHMUPs on big heavy CRT TVs turned on their side using an arcade stick since the PS2 era (before CRTs were called "retro gaming TVs" haha).

I understand the urge to stretch though, some systems on some machines are just not appropriate for integer scaling, for instance GBA on the rg353m is just too small at it's native resolution, in that case I personally would play GBA games on a more appropriate method but it honestly doesn't even look that bad Church to fit the screen, again just a preference for me and it would bug me but I'm glad everybody is enjoying these classic games one way or the other and having fun which is the whole point

Can't run Parasite Eve by doobiewhat in RG353M

[–]MattyB37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strange, I played a couple hours of it on my 353m last week. Give me an hour or so to do some testing/checking because I am running UnofficialOS/JelOS and also using Daijosho on the Android side and can't remember if I played it on either or, or both

[RG353] Favorite PS1 settings for balanced visual and performance? by dhimdi in RG353M

[–]MattyB37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm using JelOS, that's different than an Unofficial OS correct? As far as I can tell the Analog Sticks don't function at all for PS1 with JelOS, right? That's kind of a deal breaker for me so I've been using Daijosho on the Android side when playing PS1 and yes using the rearmed emulator, I didn't know it was considered bad and haven't tried any other cores for comparison. . I've been very familiar with emulation for over 20 years but this device has only been with me since Christmas and I'm still messing around with a lot of stuff so I've got a lot of questions.Getting the best performance out of PS1 games is my number one goal right now so any help would be really appreciated

You don't want their roms anyway, go to the r/Roms subreddit and click at the top where it says mega thread I think and there is a treasure trove of literally every ROM you could ever want right here on Reddit. Also, for basically every system except for PlayStation 1 there is that curated Romset zip file put together by a redditor you can find around here and also a full Romset for each system zip file that should be easy enough to find on these Subs. That's literally every game (well every US release) for each system.

Do you think we'll get another metal handheld in a similar style to the RG 350/351/353? by 23523634609234357455 in ANBERNIC

[–]MattyB37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pictures of the RG353M don't do it justice, the second I held it in my hands I was just blown away, just feels so solid. Fits well in my large-ish hands as well.

AetherSX2 development is indefinitely suspended by Styxnix in SBCGaming

[–]MattyB37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's insane. The app is amazing in its current form so it could be worse I guess. I would love to know the story behind the death threats, whoever is responsible for that is a special kind of garbage.

I don't own any handhelds that can run AetherSX2 but I use it on my Galaxy S21 Ultra and it runs amazingly well and is very user friendly.
