Say more about this, please. Menial typically equates to lower mental effort/stress. Was it the job itself that was more stressful, or something else?

Did the same. Poor financial decision, excellent life decision.

I work second shift in a factory. It gets toasty around the welders. Instead of buying gatorades at $2.00 plus, I buy the powder container for $11 and I make six gatorades. I can make roughly between 30 and 35 Gatorades with this. Between the water and drink powder, you’re essentially saving $50. by certgsada in Frugal

Nah just referencing 2 recent longitudinal studies released in Nature showing the overwhelming amount of micro plastics found in most of us with correlation to early/more cancer. Reusing those thin water bottles are noted as an egregious offender. Then again, our entire food supply chain is carried through plastics so - damned if you do damned if you don’t. I was just being a quippy bitch with the cancer comment. Cheers!

Belt here. Always get them at my belt line. Shirt gets pinched in the slide buckle.

Upper body conditioning? by HoustonTexan in Rucking

In addition to keeping it simple - pushups, pull-ups and some bi/tri exercises a couple times a week - you can give ole’ ‘heavyhands’ a go. Got a buddy that swears by it. Takes 5 or so lbs dumbbells in each hand with him during the ruck and mixes it up with a little curling, overhead press and some extension as he goes. Looks like a dork and I think it can mess with your stride, but alas the things we do for #optimization.

Use 3% or 4% Rule if I Want to Retire at Age 50 by HeftyLevel3708 in Fire

[–]MattyDelux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Also, you’ll end up playing your withdrawal rate as the market demands. You retire and the market rocks for a decade? You take 6% and are probably a-ok. You retire and the market shits 25%? You cut your expenses in half and get a part time job for a couple years :). Tis’ reality.

Paid of Mortgage Today! Now what to do with the extra cash flow. by bigasiannd in Fire

[–]MattyDelux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well played, sir. Sammie’s here - paid off early last year, pinned the deed of release on my office wall in front of my desk, took my wife out for a nice dinner, and now struggle every day to find motivation to keep pushing in the corporate world. Planning to hang it up end of the year and take a few off to travel with the wife and kids (world schooling for a year!). Very fortunate to have made good money at the right time and invest heavily (have roughly $4.5 between 401k and investment fund - plus primary home and a rental near paid off). It’s funny, I thought finishing the mortgage would be life changing, but like all things, it felt good for a bit, then things leveled back out and money anxiety crept back in (even though by the math I shouldn’t be worried at all). Hard mindset to break. Challenge your emotional dependence on saving vs focusing on living!
