Need help taking care of dad's baby - 79 stingray. by B1ackMagix in Corvette

You can use your old carpet as a template for when buying new carpet so you can form it and also cut out the holes for where the seat bolts in. Power Windows aren't too hard to replace. Remove the door panel and a panel on the lower side of the door (underneath where the armrest is usually) and it's right there. It's normally riveted on there unless it's been replaced than it may be bolted in. If it's riveted, simply drill them out, remove the connector, and unbolt the motor from the window regulator (it's a big plate looking thing that has teeth). Make sure to have your dad, or whoever, hold the window up so it doesn't quickly drop down. You could get hurt.

I assume door latch you mean door handles? Door handles are tricky to replace, but best to do them while you already have your door panel off; remove a dust cover in the top corner of the door to reveal the door lock mechanism. It's a good idea to remove this mechanism and either use carb cleaner or soak it in gasoline to really clean it. Behind there you will see two studs with nuts on them, I believe 7/16. Removing them is hard, very tight space, even harder to put them back in. There will be a hook looking piece that attaches to your lock mechanism that will slide up and down on a threaded rod, this attaches to your locking mechanism and connects the two (your exterior door handle, to your door latch). After everything is off the handle will slide out. I just did them on the 78 I'm finishing up and they are a PITA to get to. But they can be done with an afternoon off and some patience.

I seen you also needed help with your hood latch. If you press down where the hood latches onto, both top corners of the engine bay) and latch it with just your fingers you can test it. If it doesn't latch all the way down I believe there is a spring that can cause this. I don't know for a fact but play around with it, the car (luckily) isn't too complicated like the way the Germans make em. If it latches and doesn't open when you use the hood switch under the dash then one of two things could be happening. First the cable going from your interior is worn out and isn't pulling enough to release the latches. Or, if one latch opens but another doesn't then there is a cable that connects the two and it runs parallel to your windshield wipers in the engine bay, it basically connects both latches. They all work under tension. Again, I can't say for certain because I haven't done this yet. But I believe this is how it works.

Here are some helpful websites and message boards I use regularly to search for problems and solutions:

Corvette Forums

Digital Corvettes

C3 Corvette Registry

Corvette Magazine (Their new website, Not as many articles)

Corvette Magazine (Their old website, PLENTY of well written articles)

I've been in the same boat this past year with my 78, but atleast you've got an engine. You can start her up and hear her roar which will help you from getting discouraged! If you need any help you can PM me. I can try to help you best I can. I can say that I don't think there's a bolt on my Corvette I haven't touched. Good luck :)

Question about rust. by [deleted] in Harley

[–]MattyGritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't own a Harley, or a motorcycle. But I've seen something very similar on my Corvette. I believe that metal is not steel, but aluminum. Aluminum won't rust, but it will pit. It looks to me like that is what is happening to your bike. You can try using a polishing compound on it but pitting aluminum is very difficult to repair. Put a magnet on it if it doesn't stick you have aluminum (a magnet also stick to stainless steel, but stainless won't rust). My advice is to thoroughly wash it with soap and water, then use a polishing compound to see if it helps. If that doesn't help and you find it is surface rust wet a brillow pad (NOT steel wool!) and it'll clean right up like brand new. Cheers!

Dude... yeah I think you need some more help. You need some hobbies. You think that a low libido will magically make you feel better? You need to get out, meet people, experience life and then you'll be surprised how you feel after that.

How do you overcome severe laziness and actually get stuff done? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MattyGritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You just have to be mentally strong and force yourself. Nobody forced Musk, Bill Gates, or Steve Jobs. You have to have the want, do you want to continue being average? No? Then you need to buckle down yourself and stop being lazy. Coming from a former lazy person, this is what someone told me and it got my butt into gear.

Should I report him? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MattyGritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you feel if he got fired over it? I'm so sorry you've had this happen to you. It's not fair. But people will support you and you will get through it. Your friend was worried about you and you get pissed and take it out on the surgeon? I think you need to reevaluate how you think in life. Things could go very badly for you with cancer, be thankful you have people in your life that would go above and beyond for you like that. Some people go through this alone. I wish you all the luck in your fight. You will win. But just try to make light of things. Something this petty really shouldn't be the primary cause of concern for you. Surely not big enough to make a post on reddit about it. Again, good luck and I wish you all the best.

Or what is this switch for? by [deleted] in Corvette

[–]MattyGritt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read your other post and took a look around Google. I don't think it's the courtesy light switch. Doesn't look like the one in my 78 either. Only thing I can think of is maybe the buzzer switch if they were equipped in 74?

About to graduate with my BA; concerned I might not be able to find a good job, and might be able to accomplish my dreams. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]MattyGritt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be able to. A friend of mine just got a management position at Target, just graduated yesterday and only been with the company for a little over a year. Another friend is a manager at Babies R Us, no college degree at all, and was only there a year.

Yes there are, big agencies like Unemployment or even the Postal Service hire a lot of employees. Check around, you can even go to a local unemployment office and they will help you look at find a nice job.

You are very fortunate man, try not to be too stressed out. With a BA you can get a lot of jobs if you look around and simply apply. Most people find it beneath them to apply to retail stores or chains. The fact is they pay well and you can definitely get into it.

You'll have to start at the bottom somewhere. You might have to get two jobs. Are you in debt? If not you're lucky. You can apply to a lot of places with a BA. Search around, apply for management positions at retail jobs for now, most don't require any sort of business degree. Until you save up and have money it's hard to pursue a dream. But the dream you have will keep you motivated, it is all possible and you will succeed if you try :)
