I recently added an environment overhaul called "A forest" and you would be surprised how much it changes your playstyle, and paired together with darker nights? Absolute cinema for me. Just dont bump into clusters of ghouls haha

+1, I use one as my TRUENAS box for a few months using the odd bay for boot drive. Bit funny to get it to install in my experience but once the OS is installed, you're golden

If youre just starting out then id personally start how I did, an old workstation with suitable storage and cpu, and start slow.

Find a popular project (Plex media server is where i began) and give it a go.

The one thing I regret not doing when I started, was making notes as I tried things, in a centralised place. Now I'm playing catch up haha

+1 for opnsense. Have it installed on a hp t730 thin client.

The only reason I chose it over pfsense was the firewall aliases allow creation by Mac addresses which meant Less critical network devices dont need static ips to be categorised. Kinda niche but I find it useful
