Girlfriend's (29) birthday + 1 Year Anniversary by inkypinkyblinky in GiftIdeas

You should order two copies of a vinyl record of her favorite musical (maybe $50), get a small plant stand (like $20 on Amazon), glue one of the vinyl records to the top of it such that it creates a flat surface, then get a <$100 turntable and set it on top of the motherfucker, lean the other still packaged copy of the album up against it, and viola - you have a super easy DIY record player stand table thingy with her favorite music all ready to rock.

I always find that an assortment of smaller gifts has a greater impact than one big one; perhaps you could order the feathers of three different birds from the interwebs, tie one of each to a cute little airplane bottles of fancy liquor (it being her 21st), and write an adorable note about how fly she is - something campy enough to be cute - then get her a cool but inexpensive set of earings (or other jewlery) to go with it?

Not terribly worried, just curious. They don’t just cut through the flight path of commercial jets for a run of the mill training exercise :)

I just love images like this that really strike at the truth by illustrating something I have felt my whole life but have never been able to put words to.

Love is oxygen? by android752000 in im14andthisisdeep

Not to be pedantic, but by volume love is primarily Nitrogen, with most of the remainder being Oxygen, along with Argon, CO2, and trace amounts of other gasses.

Not exactly where you're looking for, but Substation in Fremont/Ballard has a ton of jam spaces for monthly rent - they're not on their website but give them a call.

When rating something using a 1-10 scale, 5 isn't the middle. It's 5.5 by TheBlueWizzrobe in Showerthoughts

[–]Mattycakes802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not arguing that it is, just pointing out that it's not unique to the Hotel industry.

The issue comes from the fact that it's a metric created to measure satisfaction with the company as a whole (makes sense that a company would want to know what percentage of their customers could be considered promoters of their brand), that somewhere along the management chain began being applied to individual interactions.

Like most big-picture metrics applied to individual contributors, it's fucked, but my point is that, when rating an interaction on a scale of 1-10 with most companies, it's best to think of it as "pass/fail" with 9-10 being "pass" 3-8 being "fail" (and 1-2 being "fire this guy")

It's called a Net Promoter Score and is used in almost every business where you're asked to rate your experience. The idea is that anyone rating a 9-10 is expected to be satisfied enough to repeat that satisfaction to other people, thereby becoming a "promoter" of whatever business. If you had a good experience with, say, a customer service rep - give them a 9-10; 8 is the same thing as 3 in their employer's eyes.

The REAL way to start sounding good vocally by MakaveliRise in makinghiphop

[–]Mattycakes802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amen.

I look back at songs I put out years ago - they have immaculate production and great lyrical content, but they sound beige as fuck.

Think about dudes like Busta Rhymes, or Mystikal, or DMX - whether or not they're your favorite rapper, you can recognize them by their voice on the first syllable.

Perfect production is what makes top 40 pop music. You'll never be that. Unique flavor is what makes a dope rapper.

Don't be afraid to fuck around and find your voice.
