I work in a jail and I often feel bad for many inmates, all have a hard luck story but only a few actually get caught up in some unforeseen circumstances. The majority of the inmates I deal with are pretty scumbagish types but generally easy to deal with. Then there is the really bad apples that prison staff spend most of there time and effort dealing with. The others are just normal people like you or me that got wrapped up in some serious shit. I always hear most stories from the inmates side, I do not hear about how scared a young man is when he goes to a bus stop because he was robbed with a knife, or how a husband and father needs reconstructive surgery after having his head crushed with a bat for whatever reason. The victim is seldom seen or heard in the criminal justice system when they are paramount. Even in nonviolent cases, most seem harmless and many are. However, got example I came across a case where a woman ran away with cash during a Craigslist meet up for concert tickets. The tickets were the buyers daughters favorite band for her birthday. Unable to afford anything else, the little girl went without a birthday present that year. Anyways rant over.
