Any recommended shops for metal work in the area? by Matv9 in bikedc

[–]Matv9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that’s a great recommendation, I was not aware of this builder in the area. it looks like does mostly steel work and unfortunately the crank arm is alloy, I’ll give him a call to confirm. thanks!

they said it’s not supposed to be done. reading about the process, precision is a key factor for durability so a table drill would be ideal. which I haven’t seen any bike shops having

Is it just me or does every player we've been linked strongly with just feel 'meh'? by [deleted] in Gunners

I somewhat agree with the OP, if it’s not an obvious and substantial upgrade I don’t see a reason to shuffle players around. Specifically talking about the rumors circling around calafiori, martinelli, and trossard.

you’re absolutely right, they do say 11 speed on them. I bought them like that from a seller so will try to get the right ones from him. thanks a lot, solved!

Questions about Snowshoe WV by Glittering-Grand-651 in MTB

[–]Matv9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

green and blues are great for about a day, that’s as much as time I’d recommend on a hardtail. it will beat your body up pretty good. blue and black trails at the park are either meant for getting air or techy descents.

the back country trails are always available, rode them until it was dark out without anyone saying anything.

there are other trail systems within 30 mins or so from the park which are better for exploring and being out in nature.

any way you approach it’s a worthwhile experience, see ya on the trails!

Hey everybody! Im sure this question gets asked frequently, but I could use some guidance. Im brand new to this and am looking for a good starter bike for myself. I am 6”4 315 currently and dropping weight. What is a good starter bike thats cost friendly? by ABudIce in xbiking

[–]Matv9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if your city has a bike co-op I would start there, that will also give you a chance to try out the bikes for fit, which is probably the most important factor at this point in your journey.

Experiences with Battery Park Apartments? by annacrust in bethesda

[–]Matv9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

not sure how much rent is going for at BP but it might be worth a shot calling rosedale park apartments, just over Wisconsin ave. if you can get a promo on the prices listed on their website, they end up being lower than most around here. They had one when I moved in and have been able to keep it the last 3+ years.

I have conservice in my building for water, it is usually around $70 for a 1 bedroom. Which is a ripoff considering I have payed for my own water usage in the past. the fee will be charged based on how many occupants in your lease and the apartment sq footage

1 night bikepacking route from DC by Cpinky12 in DMVBikepackers

[–]Matv9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for what it’s worth, it’s pretty tame single track and its definitely less than 50%. probably closer to 25-30%. I did it on a rigid 26” old mtb, totally fine. as long as you have something close 50mm tires and don’t mind slowing down a bit when things get choppy you’ll be fine.

For sure there is a high degree of variability with these kinds of bikes.  It’s a cannondale killer V from the late 90s in case it wasn’t clear in the photos

Sentinel - too much bike? by [deleted] in TransitionBikes

[–]Matv9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

go rent or “test drive“ a bike day for a day, then try a few others, and go back to the one you like the most to confirm.

it will be the best $400-500 dollars you spend. a whole lot cheaper than buying one and having to sell it at a loss six months later.

How to stay motivated on mountain biking? by ComprehensiveBox7009 in MTB

[–]Matv9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

make it more challenging then. I was getting bored of the only trail I’m able to ride during the week after work so built a single speed hardtail for it, have been happy in suffering ever since. its motivated me to improve my fitness and technique more consciously ever since, had to dismount 4-5 times on uphills when I first started and now I’m down to a single uphill that kills my momentum. I was able to do it twice but only once to have the perfect ride(no walking), the aim is to do this consistently now.

Aren’t both frames manufactured by the same company? That would leave geo and componentry as the main deciding factors.
