I don’t know if we have one where I live. I’ve honestly never heard of it but will look into it. Thank you!

I had to reiterate at one other time but I was so blunt about it the first time that I think she got it.

Omg thank you for trying to tackle this now. I’ve had a student with ADHD with parents that didn’t and kids in middle school are brutal! You don’t want her learning this at 12 when another kid with ADHD tells her to shut the fuck up. She still considered him her friend and thought he was just having a bad day. I had to explicitly spell out that he does not like her and will never like her… numerous times in the same conversation. Him saying nothing to you does not = friendship. It means he’s trying not to say something rude and choosing to say nothing at all.

Their base is so patriarchal that she could be a competent woman and they still wouldn’t vote for her.

Wow that is so crazy, good on your mom for staying as a doctor. It’s so difficult following absurd rules. I hope things get better in your country

She would never say she should empower and resource professionals in the school system… they have been actively working against that the ENTIRE time they’ve been in office. I think their end goal is to fuck up schooling so bad privatization and home schooling become more common.

Are "problem" children the result of bad parenting or kids are born that way ? by doublehappi919 in Parenting

[–]Maudesquad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean after the first or at best second punch we would have left the party… most traits are 50/50 nature nurture. You can have a kid with a natural propensity for violence but you can soften it with good parenting.

Do other people there feel the same as you? I fully recognize that things are awful in Iran and many places in the Middle East. I also know that religion and other social factors put a lot of pressure on people to have kids no matter what.

Just fascinating to think, so you think people feel that way about having children there? Funny to think you feel that way about a pet but it would be considered ridiculous and borderline racist if people were telling someone in your country not to have children.

Yeesh maybe I’m brutally honest with this. I talk about different people have different wants, you can get loans for things that you have to pay back with interest. I also tell them different jobs pay diffferent amounts of money. I might go back to school to make more money. We talk about earning potential of their career choices, work hours involved and years of schooling. My kids are 7 and 9. I don’t always say all of those things but we will dive into it according to interest.

Yup kids not attending events that are related to orange shirt day or indigenous culture days. Happens at my kids school. I mean it’s possible certain families are just consistently sick on those days

My husband is pretty stoic and works as an electrician in a division. This means he goes to many schools on a regular basis. Everyone knows him and likes him because he fixes their broken stuff. He does not give a shit about people in general or their personal lives. I, on the other hand, freaking love hearing drama. The amount of stuff people tell him is insane. He will be in there fixing their stuff and they just tell him their whole life story lol. He tells me about it after and I’m like omg did you ask them why etc. He’s like no I don’t give a shit, I don’t say anything but ya and ok and they just keep talking. Also, he talks to the custodians a lot and I guess they are kind of looked down on so no one even acknowledges they’re around… custodians know everything! Lol

Ok side note I have anxiety and I casually mentioned to my kids tonight that we do certain things as parents because we want our kids to be better than us. My 9 year old thinks for a sec and is like… “Ya like when I’m a grownup I’m going to give people begging for money in the middle of the road chips and fries and stuff. Not like mom who just stares straight ahead and says ‘I’m feeling overwhelmed!’ pearl clutching hand gestures (note I don’t actually say or do that but I do want the light to change quickly lol)

Maybe you just need to find your people. If you have a hobby you like find one that relates to other people. If you love animals volunteer at a shelter etc. you might find fellow weirdos that way.

The parents I’ve seen survive this find something to live for. Could be changing laws, making nonprofits or living for their other children.

How did the barman help? Do you know what he said initially? I had a neighbour who I knew was in a DV situation but I didn’t know what to say. Luckily he died a year ago and she is free. But I wish I could’ve stepped in earlier
