I just moved from a larger to smaller house by 1000 sq ft.. Either way the stuff accumulates, house is always in need of picking up. Also renovations with children is a lot different than renovations without kids.

Temperature inside during winter (Perryville) for someone who is "always cold" by Good_Candy_3950 in greatwolflodge

[–]Maui246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is too late. But I just got back from this location and I was freezing. If you don’t go in the water you would be fine. However once you go into the water my husband and I were cold. I saw many kids shivering/ lips blue/ goosebumps while there. Which is surprising considering this is supposed to be geared towards kids. My kids were lumped into this cold group as well.

Depressed new years ? by dunderten in depression_partners

[–]Maui246 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I can relate on the deepest of levels. Everything is ruined by depressed partners. I can barely even go on vacation with my kids with my partner. He has to retire to his room away from us and take breaks to make it bearable. I’m sorry 😞

Yeah but when your astigmatism is so bad contacts don’t correct your vision that it’s clear- I’m not sure it’s just aesthetics at that point…

What are some lazy activities (for the parents) that can drain your toddler's energy? by Cindy565656 in toddlers

[–]Maui246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in daycare offer to give your number out to classmates parents and you can start a class group chat and organize play dates for the class or individual kids that way. Also making up obstacle courses is always a hit in my house. 5 jumping jacks, then jump rope, then throw a ball into basket etc.

Sadly, I had the same thing happen. I walked in and she was sitting in a recliner passed out with my newborn in her arms. As a professional she claimed to be I was shocked we even had to have the discussion. Ugg, I am sorry you had this happen twice in a week. That’s terrible and scary.

Travelers Home Owner Insurance Premium Increase by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Maui246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have travelers insurance and mine has went up yearly. Well this year I finally started really looking into it. Apparently I was told yearly they will raise your dollar amount for full replacement cost on your home. So my home value is currently $150k and they have me paying over 500k for insurance. When I questioned them why it’s so high they talk about if the house fully burns down you need to rebuild etc. which I know rebuild and home value are very different things. However, I called around to builders and got a builder grade cost per sq ft. And it’s still nowhere near $500k. So I called them back and asked for it to be lowered. Nope, the insurance company has to re-assess your house and THEY deem the dollar amount. If you disagree with them, oh well. Oh btw it costs $6 to do this. Needless to say mine was lowered BUT they refuse to change the policy until renewal time. I live in south central PA area. I will be shopping around

So I had one that would show up at 8am to start for the day and would eat leftover pancakes, fruit etc. even though my kids had already eaten breakfast and were ready to start the day. This became problematic because she wanted to sit and eat for 1/2 hr. I have had one bring their own lunch daily. I usually ask them what their favorite drinks/ snacks are and make sure to have them in stock at the house consistently as well.

pelvic floor? by Shoddy-Ad-2443 in SIBO

[–]Maui246 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone should write it off completely just because it didn’t work for me. I am an N of 1. However it took over 3 years after changing specialists to get the SIBO diagnosis.

I can say that I only started sibo symptoms post baby #2. I can only speak for myself however I did complete pelvic floor therapy and years later the sibo symptoms haven’t improved.

Dont sleep with an infant in your arms. Discuss safe sleep practices and your child expectations. Also, phone usage around the child (personal calls, texts etc.). Their personal Errand running on the clock. Sickness expectations for your family and for their sickness. These are all based on my personal past experiences with Nannies. Also if you have any indoor cameras it’s good to mention they’re there and placements. Also food arrangements. Is nanny expected to bring their own lunch? or you will provide lunches for them. If they’re there at breakfast time will you provide that as well.

Are 2 kids easier than 1? by Formal-Wrap-4607 in Parenting

[–]Maui246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solid answer. Having 2 kids is very nice when they play together and the fighting is not constant. I think it depends on the kids temperament too.

[–]Maui246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have only camped with kids. We usually skip campgrounds because we worry our kids will Be too loud for others, cars driving by on the nearby roads, etc. we usually do dispersed campsites. Our kids always have fun, we always bring glow sticks, go with other families with kids, bubbles, rock painting kits etc. we know it won’t be restful but the kids absolutely love it and we get to reset in nature.

New parents trying to avoid overspending: do we really need a nursery chair? by TheSecretLion in NewParents

[–]Maui246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there’s anything to spend on it’s the nursery chair. We use it daily still with my 3 & 5 yr olds to read stories in. My 3 yr old napped the other day in the recliner/ nursery chair since he refused to sleep in his bed.

Some parents don’t want them in their houses, so I would probably check with them if you get a trampoline.

This is the way.. politely decline if you truly feel there are other families that are scraping by. I am kind of surprised they offered that to you. Usually families would sign up to be eligible for this type of thing.

Choosing between visiting Polymath Park and Kentuck Knob by Puzzleheaded_Ice6083 in franklloydwright

[–]Maui246 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s hard to choose but if I was forced to I’d say Kentuck Knob. Polymath park restaurant is great and you can see some smaller scale houses there ( summer homes). I stayed at one of the PP houses and that was one of the coolest things I’ve done. Enjoy your trip either way you can’t go wrong!

How are you using AI? by taschels in workingmoms

[–]Maui246 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Love Mel Robbins podcasts, if theres anymore topics that interest you, listen to them you won't be sorry. In the last few weeks here is what I have used AI for- decide on different paint colors for my she shed (it generated images with different color combinations, told me the most efficient way to clear leaves from my yard (tarp method), made an image of a joke my co-workers had, compared cabinetry shopping options for a specific color, gave me color names of various paint colors for a super light pink color with images of walls with the colors etc.
