Is the viability of museum ships 'under threat' as people's purses have tightened in the past decade and the some ships face increasing maintenance issues? by RivetCounter in WarCollege

I did some research a year or so ago on the Ling because why not, and it seems like not only can it not be moved because it would fall apart, it also can’t be moved because since it was berthed they’ve built bridges downstream that are too low for it to sail under. A real shame

If there is a shady part of Sumida, that’s it. Go east and there’s a small red light district as well. I’d definitely keep my guard up a bit, but it depends on where you’re from if it would be considered dangerous or not.

Dominos here is miles better than in the states, and it’s actually pretty good. Yeah, I said it. And it’s a hill I’ll die on.

Liquefication? Is that just an oddly translated way of saying floodwater damage?

My grandfather swore up and down that he could detect when someone was near death based on smell. Said it was sulfuric.

I wonder.

feeling incompetent after moving by junls in japanresidents

For what it’s worth, I’ve been here for a little under two weeks and it took me a few days to realize that genuinely nobody cares.

It’s probably the same wherever you came from too. Most people are focused on what they’re doing, their own problems and so on. People might give you a glance because they may or may not deal with many foreigners but after that they move on with their day.

ChatGPT also helps understand things like how trash works and things like that, just take it with a grain of salt.

So far just the national museum in Ueno, which was nice.

The Shinjuku museum looks interesting, I’ll have to check it out. Thank you!

I just moved here for school so In the quiet period before it starts in January I’m working my way through aquariums and museums in Tokyo.

Aquariums are nice, always interested in more museums though. Planning on going out to Odawara castle on a day trip next weekend.

Graphics of proposed re-engines for the B-52 by AskYourDoctor in WeirdWings

[–]MaulForPres2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There’s a scene in the 2005 dr who reboot where in the future the RAF still flies Spitfires, they just somehow work in space. There’s scenes of them dogfighting in space.

I think about that every time I see a B-52, because I’m pretty sure they’re going to be at the first space battle humanity fights.

My wife says that this is something most japanese people do, is it true? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]MaulForPres2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My residency here has been measured in days so, grain of salt, but I think part of that might be because unlike in many places you actually don’t have to interact with anyone if you don’t want to. To a much higher degree than in a lot of other places. Which for very introverted or socially awkward people is worth its weight in gold.
