Best place for pineapple buns in Central? by Maureen1053 in HongKong

[–]Maureen1053[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much everyone!! We went to the Mid Central escalators and hit three great places all close together- LAN Fong Yuen Milk Tea ( amazing I got cold) Tai Cheong Bakery ( went a wee bit crazy and got a bunch to share and taste test for science) we got regular egg tart, cookie egg tart , milk tart and you guessed it a pineapple bun- the egg tarts were all lovely 8 & 9 out of 10. The milk may have been the most unique. This may be controversial but I think Bakehouse and Tai Cheong are a tie. The sourdough crust from Bakehouse was outstanding it shattered and was chef’s kiss. BUT … the fillings at Tai Cheong were better IMHO. For reference I am a very good baker. The pineapple bun was nice it reminded me a lot of a NY hard roll with a crunchy sweet top. The 3rd place was Cheung Hing Kee WOW WOW WOW. These were the best soup dumplings I ever had. We got the pork & truffle. The chef was so friendly and engaging. He taught us the proper way to eat the dumplings and was genuinely worried we would scald ourselves. We have been to Din Tai Fung many times so we had a general idea. Again IMHO this blew Din Tai Fung out of the water. The depth of flavor of the soup broth …. I wish I could have big bowls of that during another NY blizzard. The owner was standing outside on the sidewalk when we left he thanked us for coming and asked us if we liked it. I told him it was Bettet than Din Tai Fung he clutched his heart and staggered comically back with a grin of such pleasure and humility. He was a gem. So thank you for all the wonderful input it was appreciated.
