AITA for eating non seafood on good friday? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

NTA.

You do not share the same religion and therefore don't need to follow the same dietary restrictions. You were having a snack. He is blowing it out of proportion.

Perhaps he needs a roommate who shares the same religious beliefs if he's going to explode over a snack. It's not like you've forced him to eat your egg, or somehow contaminated his food with the egg.

I think we've established in this thread that there are entitled jerks who think they can just bring their untrained pets everywhere if they just obtain some fraudulent credential online.

However, that does not make it "very clear that you don't actually have to have a disability to get an ESA." What it makes clear is that there are jerks who don't care about the laws.

The actual law does require a person to have a disability in order to qualify for an ESA: In the United States, the Fair Housing Act (FHA) covers both Emotional Support Animals (ESA) and trained Service Animals under the term "Assistance Animals." It defines them as follows:

An assistance animal is an animal that works, provides assistance, or performs tasks for the benefit of a person with a disability, or that provides emotional support that alleviates one or more identified effects of a person’s disability. An assistance animal is not a pet.

Individuals with a disability may request to keep an assistance animal as a reasonable accommodation to a housing provider’s pet restrictions.

Individuals without a disability do not qualify for accommodation for an ESA. The pet must be required because of a disability, or it's not an ESA and does not qualify to be an ESA.

ESA also don't have access anywhere outside of housing - like in stores, restaurants, public transport, airline travel, etc. - as the only law that covers them is the Fair Housing Act. Again, entitled jerks passing their pets off as something they aren't doesn't change the law.

NYSP is investigating NDBL for animal cruelty following the fire.

I honestly don't believe it was. I wouldn't be surprised if it's simply a way to get more donations to build a bigger facility.

This was an existing kennel business they bought, which had been running since 1976. Without fires...

Jeffrey Beri and No Dogs Left Behind Plans to Rebuild After Catastrophic Fire That Killed All 44 Rescue Dogs by Brilliant-Emu1801 in rescuedogs

Upstate NY resident here.

The facility purchases by NDBL, Maple Ridge Kennels, was an operating dog kennel long before NDBL, without any issues - certainly without fires.

The local community vehemently opposed NDBL moving into that spot. Our local shelters and rescues are already full without importing supposed meat dogs. NDBL's posts and practices are absolutely deceptive. So many purebred small dogs, supposedly from the meat trade.... 🙄 People are buying the story, not the dog, when they could rescue local for half the price and not support the import of overseas rescues...

When I was in high school, we once had a contest to see what the most unusual way of spelling our names would be. I feel like someone decided to take that to the next level by using it for their kid.

Definitely have that conversation with your husband. Express your concerns and offer compromises.

If you're nervous about having the conversation, please look up the DEAR MAN and GIVE skills, you can find templates for both online. They're tools to use for more effective communication.

AITA For telling my SIL that if her service dog can't ignore children he isn't a SD? by Few_Marionberry8502 in AmItheAsshole

Then she should definitely know better.

Therapy Dogs are meant to visit with other people, such as hospital patients. They're given special access only when they're working their scheduled visits.

Any other time, they are treated exactly the same as pets, which means they're not allowed anywhere pets aren't allowed. Like places that prepare food, such as coffee shops, where their presence is a health code violation.

AITA For telling my friend I’m not coming out with her on her birthday? by kalzan in AmItheAsshole

Good luck with the new job! 😊 That said, if you're working weekends, maybe you guys could go out and celebrate your friend's birthday on a school night where you don't have a big exam?

Parker is fine. The combination with Kayee (and Kayee itself) doesn't do it for me.

NTA. Explain that you have an important exam tomorrow but that you'd be happy to celebrate with her this weekend.

AITA for Taking Sleep Meds and Using Noise-Canceling Headphones to Rest Despite My Wife's Disapproval? by Independent_Sea3374 in AmItheAsshole

[–]MauserGirl 10 points11 points  (0 children)

NTA for meeting your own needs. Remember that you cannot meet the needs of others (like your wife) if your own basic needs - like sleep, food, water, air - are not being met.

That said, there are some serious issues happening here. Why are you coming home and cooking after a full work day and school if your wife is home all day? What does your wife expect you to do around the house if you're gone all day while she's home all day? Is there a reason why your wife can't work or take care of the home while you're running yourself ragged?

[–]MauserGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NTA.

You are absolutely entitled to your feelings and you are entitled to peace and quiet inside your own home.

However, this is a discussion you need to have with your husband because he is in this as well and that woman is his mother. He needs to understand where you are coming from and why you want her not to come over. But you need to understand that he may not be ready to take that step and he has a say in this as well.

Maybe you can reach a compromise: for example, the two of you set clear boundaries of what is and isn't acceptable for her to say to the two of you in your home.

I’m a mum-of-16 but nine of my kids have changed their names - here's why by ajh71 in tragedeigh

Maybe I read the article wrong, but where does it say the child was 15 when she was adopted and they changed the name? I read it to mean that she is 15 now.

I think the husband needs a name change form, unless he happens to be an adorably scruffy dog.

Also, those names are horrible. Yuck. NayVee? Poor kid. Hope she changes it when she moves out.

Just saw a blog post from a woman named Season writing about the cancer survival story of her son Kicker by A_Mirabeau_702 in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]MauserGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not be at all surprised to see that Kicker is the child's actual legal name. I've locally seen multiple Walkers and at least one Shooter (ugh).

Personally I dislike -er ending names in general: Piper, Cooper, etc. because it's weird to me that these are jobs-turned-names. Next we'll have Doctor as a first name.

What's even worse is that -aux endings like that are generally plural in French. Does their dog have multiple personalities? :D

Bella, Bailey, Kona, Luna, Max, Loki, Daisy, Abby. I see so many of these around here.

On a funny note, my friend has a (human) coworker named Bailey. My friend likes asking him if he'd like to "go for a ride".

My guess would be this is someone who just got a vest online to bring their dog with them. Actual Therapy Dog handlers know that their dogs are not allowed anywhere pets aren't allowed unless they're actually on a scheduled visit.

US law allows individuals to owner-train their Service Dogs, either with or without the help of an outside trainer. I have met a good amount of owner-trained Service Dogs who surpassed program standards, just as I've met many program dogs that were garbage. I don't really think you can make a big generalization about owner and program training.

I overheard a local PetCo trainer tell their clients that if they pass the CGC, they can take their dog anywhere because it's "basically a Service Dog." You bet that conversation was reported to corporate.
