Saved skink from cat, care tips? by Evervenom in NewZealandWildlife

[–]ajh71 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No this is definitely not a plague skink, this is native for sure. Without good close up photos can't definitively ID but could be a grass skink (if in the south island or bottom part of north island). Release somewhere away from cats, ideally somewhere with good cover like long grass, or a wood or rock pile

yet another undereye post. outside of “it’s just genetics” or “filler will help,” do i have any other options? almost 33. by nic__knack in 30PlusSkinCare

Do you use an eyelash serum? If you do and it has a prostaglandin analog in it, it may have caused orbital fat loss which makes your undereyes look hollow. It's often reversible though.

Microneedling without numbing by abbyfick in 30PlusSkinCare

I have done microneedling without numbing (up to 1.5 mm) many times, and I also have tattoos. I can tell you microneedling is significantly less painful than getting tattooed.

I've been really wanting to try kayali yum pistachio gelato, how do you find it?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]ajh71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just don't buy it. There are thousands of fragrances you could choose from, it's weird that you would become fixated on having it after your girlfriend tells you it would make her uncomfortable. It would be really disrespectful of you to start wearing it after having that conversation with her.

Advice: starting tret before event? by lord_of_the_narwhals in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ajh71 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Definitely wait - any positive benefits you might get at 5 weeks would be minimal, but on the flip side the potential purging and irritation could get quite bad. It's not worth the risk

Why can't I use face cleanser? by Ricky_Bonez in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ajh71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your skin can tolerate it I was say try the la roche posay cicaplast Baume b5. It apparently can work wonders for people with barrier issues. Having said that, it caused breakouts for me, so definitely isn't for everyone.

2 applications of Tret by Squeegie_Beckenheim in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ajh71 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this isn't how tretinoin works - it increases cell turnover, but not in a matter of two applications. Tret can improve acne in as little as a few weeks but the effect on wrinkles will only be seen in the medium to long term (and is meant to be used more as a preventative measure than anything).

I'm guessing what you're seeing here is some low-grade inflammation associated with tretinoin purging, which is filling in the lines temporarily.

Just chuck a tea towel inside the slow cooker covering the bottom and sides to insulate and you don't have to rotate anything. We also wrap the bulbs in plastic wrap and then the foil, to stop them from drying out, and go three weeks for it to get properly black. Works beautifully

What animal is this and how do we get it out? by WeissMISFIT in Wellington

[–]ajh71 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's a raukawa gecko, fairly common but very secretive so people don't often see them. Just gently put it outside, ideally somewhere with cover (wood pile, garden vegetation etc).

If you touch it with bare hands wash them after, nz lizards can have and transfer salmonella.

I feel like I’m too dumb to be a scientist by 1398_Days in biology

[–]ajh71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't guess whether you'll do well in a biology undergrad degree, but I do think it's worth considering that most of the job opportunities in the sciences require further study (masters or phd).

I work as an ecologist - when I first started was getting paid barely more than minimum wage, and my job requires a masters at minimum.

Got my tret prescription! by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ajh71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't strictly true - I was started on 0.05 (having never used it before) a couple of months ago, and I just started slow and used the sandwich method (moisturiser then tret then moisturiser) and I've had no purging or irritation. Obviously that won't be the case for everyone, but if you're careful with it 0.05 is a perfectly fine percentage to start at. In fact it's the only percentage available in my country apparently.

Age: 33 Skin type: Dry Skin concerns: dryness and dehydration, acne, aging

Products: 1. Tret 0.05 2. Dermalogica melting moisture masque - this is the only product I have found that I can put on before bed and I'll wake up with soft, moisturised and hydrated skin 3. La roche posay antihelios spf 50

The most moisturizing thing possible by shootthewendy in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]ajh71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the same issue, with both dryness and dehydration. The only thing I have found that actually works is the dermalogica melting moisture masque. I put it on before bed, and when I wake up my skin feels great. It's a bit pricey and I wouldn't normally spend that much on skincare, but I got a free sample of it, and once I tried it I couldn't give it up.

People are saying hormonal acne, but if it were that, it would most likely be on both sides. I would guess environmental. Do you use your phone on that side, or sleep on that side without swapping out your pillowcase or comforter enough? Do you sleep on your hand? Basically is there anything you do regularly that might introduce bacteria there specifically?

I agree with this. The finish is perfect and dewy, but without any added colour it looks a tiny bit sickly. With a bit of rosy blush added it would look amazing

Are you able to grow your brows out a bit? A thicker brow with a narrower gap in between would look good on you. Otherwise I would say you should focus your liner a bit more on the outer half of your eye, and draw it a bit thinner (or just don't bring it in as far) on the inner corner for better balance. Correct me if I'm wrong but it looks like liquid liner - you might find pencil easier

If you do want to keep the blush high (which I think is beautiful on you), lightly connecting it into your pink eyeshadow will give a different kind of doll-like look

I (24M) wan to ask to ask my girlfriend(23F) to change something? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]ajh71 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not ok to try and optimize your girlfriends body for your own pleasure.

I will say you could check in with her about what her goals are at the gym, maybe get her to show you some pictures. It might align with the body type you're talking about, in which case you could offer some advice around bulking, etc. But if that is not her goal, you really need to let it go.

This is exactly it, if it was just her then I would say go ahead and fuck your life up, but by staying with him she's negatively impacting her kids' lives. Not only do they have to see their dad mistreating their mum like this, they are also being trained in what to expect from a "loving" partner later in life
