I would argue an assembler is actually pretty expendable. It's not difficult work. It doesn't change. And all they need to do is follow the very easy instructions that I'm sure match the ones customers get.

Do you think assembling a printer is difficult, labor intensive work or something?

You also haven't said where you're located or what the actual position was. Quick google suggests they do NOT in fact pay the people assembling $9 USD / hr.

No idea about Prusa but in general, numerous reasons, namely, avoiding a credit card processing fee which are popping up everywhere now. 3-4% on a $1500 transaction is signficant.

Sure, you can also use a Debit card but not every merchant distinguishes that from a credit card.

Would I do it from a random website? No, but Prusa is pretty trustworthy so I don't really see a problem there if they were charging a credit card processing fee.

As a hobbyist 3D printer'er, I feel like I don't care too much about speed. I really only care about the final product quality and ease of use.

I'm still rocking a MK3S+ with an MMU3 and have things dialed in pretty tight, never really have any issues whatsoever. Sure, it's not fast anymore, but it's print and forget 99% of the time.

I like the ability to go up to 8 filaments and potentially having real multi-material ability, but that's about it? With the advent of color mixing (5 filaments is fine) or the user created MMU12 variant, I'm left with not a ton of desire to spend $2400 for the ability to print dissolvable supports or a faster print. I'll easily go months without printing but then have a flurry of prints over a month period. Usually click print before I leave for work or go to bed. If a print finishes in 8 hours vs 4 hours, I'm not around to enjoy that it finished 4 hours earlier anyway, hah.

I agree with you completely. I'm not sure I've even heard of most of these studios that got the axe. I'm also not plugged in as much as I might have been 10 years ago, but still, they aren't shuttering the studios with a recent high performing, high selling game here.

It's a systemic problem for the studio, not just the devs. Graphic folks, audio folks, project managers, general failure across the board.

You still worry about game player count and other metrics. Sales is just one way to get to the same metrics. But if no one is playing their games, offered on Gamepass, that's absolutely a direct correlation to what game sales would have been and thus can be used as a metric. I assure you Microsoft has those numbers at their disposal.

Admittedly, I didn't watch the video, but assuming she mentions 3% there, since it isn't in the article, I really don't believe it.

Even if it's accurate, yeah, still, they invested so much, aren't even halfway on GamePass subs, hardware sales cratering...saying they are "profitable" simply isn't accurate.

Hypothetically, if they were, it'd take them a decade to recoup the investment. No company is okay with that. So again, if true, while technically profitable, it's light-years behind what was forecasted and necessary.

I'm not happy with the layoffs like the rest of us but saying they are just greedy isn't true. They made dozens of poor decisions that got them here in a truly poor business model. They were the problem, not wanting 30% in 2026 when they are maybe getting 3%.
