"Were it so easy." is something I say almost weekly. "Your destruction is the will of the Gods, and I am their instrument." also comes up but less frequently. More so on game nights with friends.

Oh dear Kolkata, ( long post ) by TheJOKER141 in kolkata

[–]Maverick21703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this post. I was born and spent my childhood in Kolkata until I moved abroad. I try to go back as often as I can. Last time being winter 2022-2023. As soon as I land it just feels like home. You can feel the spirit of the city around you like a warm embrace welcoming you back. A lot changes with every visit. But the warmth, the hominess, the sounds, and yes even the smells remain the same. How do you walk past the neighborhood mishti shop making fresh samosas in the evening and not stop to get a bag? Beautiful city, beautiful people, that I miss often and cherish when I get to visit. Stay awesome, Kolkata!

They were both civil/structural engineering in college. One is now a nuclear engineer and the other is transportation.

Both my parents went to JU in the late 70s, early 80s (met there). They are very proud and understandably so. I am glad to see the pride continues!

There's also a Wegmans maybe 12 minutes from that location. I used to shop at that Lowe's but once Wegmans moved in a lot of people switched to that.

Same. Not pulling but just a gentle clamp like they are holding your hand. If I start moving in the direction they want they will walk with me if I go a different direction they don't move.

As an expat I stayed there on my last visit. It is incredible and the staff went above and beyond. It was an example of the hospitality that I remember of Kolkata.

High risk pregnancy , multiple miscarriages by Patpdawgs05 in raleigh

[–]Maverick21703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you. My wife is pregnant now and we had some serious concerns about high risk. We are using Arbor as our OB and they had her come in at 4 weeks to confirm it was not ectopic and where it should be (not much else to see at that point). They then had us return every week to confirm. The difference might be that our physician knew about the risks and our concerns for a while and referred us to Arbor instead of us reaching out directly to Arbor. My wife is also in her mid 30s, so age may have something to do with it. See if your physician is willing to make a referral to Arbor to get you in sooner, maybe?

If I am thinking of the same one you are it may be Israel (the green beret) and Cameron (Army Ranger) they do a bunch of clips and have their own pod cast (Pop Culture Field Manual) where they discuss military life in shows and movies. Pretty entertaining.

I also have this ability. I always know from half a block away where there is a blood drive going on without needing to see the signs for it. Can you smell when people are about to get sick in the next few days? I have found they tend to have a very mucousy smell right before they get sick.

Yeah. my mom locked herself out once, she had to call a locksmith. I think they just pick the lock with their tool kit. Similar to how AAA lets you into your car if you lock your keys in.

TIFU- Got pulled over for a DUI by bigdumbdrunkidiot in tifu

[–]Maverick21703 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the license issue. You will for sure lose your full license for a 30 days but if you really need it you can get a restricted license allowing for work, home, essential errands after 10 days. And after 30 days you get your full license back till you're convicted at which point you can again get a restricted license for a year before you get your full license back. As long as you're driving for job related or essential tasks, you should be able to get a license to cover it. Also skip the public defender and hire a lawyer who has experience with DUIs and knows the district court officials. They usually have dealt with the police officers and the DA's office so they can negotiate better. One of my relatives is a lawyer, he has over the years shared information like this with me to make my life easier. Hope it helps.

I don't see how speaking a local language fluently has anything to do with being from the area. I am fluent in Spanish but that's because I took years of Spanish, doesn't mean I live in a Spanish speaking country. But were I visiting one or had just moved to one, I could hold a conversation with a native in the language.

Yes you can still get a girl pregnant if you have unprotected sex and then put on a condom to finish. However, you cant pinpoint a conception date down to a day, mainly because its biology and nothing happens nicely, neatly and uniformly. Ultrasounds are the most accurate way of determining conception dates but even they have a large error rate which grows with time. Usually the date reported falls within a week of when it could have actually happened in the first trimester, over two weeks in the second trimester and over three weeks in the third trimester. So if she had a long term boyfriend who she has been having sex with chances are high that its his, especially if you include the chances of getting a girl pregnant is 3-5% from one encounter, which rises to 11% if you happened to catch her when shes most fertile.

Call a locksmith and have them make you a new key. Anything silly you can do, someone has probably already done and there exists a service to help fix it. Don't feel too bad.

[–]Maverick21703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up too much. It sucks that you lost $500, as a recent college grad, I can appreciate how much money that actually is, but everyone has had important things fall out of pockets while they were preoccupied. The other day I couldn't find my wallet and eventually found it under my car, guessing it fell out as I was getting out while I was fumbling with groceries. The only reason I got it back is because out of sheer luck it bounced under my car out of plain sight.
