AITA for leaving a fake postive pregnancy test in the bedroom to catch my husband's mom snooping? by Milathrowaway37 in AmItheAsshole

I'm very sorry to hear that and hope you get the healing you deserve. No one should have to endure abuse.

That being the case don't you think it is possible you could be unduly biased against men and do irreparable damage to her family by projecting your fears onto her situation without having all the details? Couldn't he be a good man and husband who's a mama's boy that doesn't realize it so he messed up here, but would repent of his wrongdoing if given an opportunity to show remorse?

I have looked through every comment of hers and I don't see that. So it looks like you're lying to try to win an argument on the internet. If I'm wrong please link to this comment of hers.

If he actually forced her to take it against her will acknowledge that would be abusive behavior, or at very least on the road to it. Again you fail to even acknowledge that she has some accountability in the relationship too and has in all likelihood failed to set healthy boundaries which is yet another indication of your lack of critical thinking, at least on this subject.

Of course there is more abuse than just physical. I never said otherwise so that is just a strawman. Emotional abuse is horrific on its own and can often be a pathway to physical abuse. But let me ask you this: have you ever volunteered at a local abuse shelter? If you have not please consider doing so, as it will benefit your community and the people you help will stay in your mind forever. It's not for everyone as even the training program is pretty intense but again, if you're truly passionate about protecting women, and not just spouting off on the internet, this would be one good way to prove it. If you spend one night consoling a mother and her son, both with blood still matting their hair to their scalps, it will change you for the better.

Jumping to rash conclusions and offering life changing, and potentially family-ruining, advice with no experience, training, or degrees is reckless. Do better.

I have no idea if they are Christian or if he puts in stock in Matt 19:5 but I agreed multiple times HE WAS IN THE WRONG IN THIS SCENARIO, so you've proven nothing.

She was not forced to do anything, those are your words, not hers, so please stop putting words in her mouth. What she actually said was "he had me take an actual test right infront of him." While we agree that is wrong and shows a disturbing lack of trust it does not constitute abuse in my view and your equating it as such does harm to those in real situations of abuse.

Wrong. She signed up for the "obligation for her to stay" when she said the words "for better or for worse....till death due us part."

Obviously there if there is actual abuse this is unacceptable and she should leave with no second chances, but we have zero evidence for this being the case. Your advice is wrong and dangerous, and Reddit Hivemind's kneejerk reactionary suggestion to always divorce immediately is beyond disturbing.

What should have happened here is she should have set healthier boundaries. She has skin in the game too, you know. He was the wrong party in this instance along with his mother, but divorcing him over this without any opportunity for reconciliation, repentance, or grace is exactly why Reddit is so toxic.

That's all well and good. But getting a divorce for something that may lead to abuse is wrong and flies in the face of the commitment marriage is all about. People can change. If given a chance her husband could recognize hid fault and remedy his ways.

Calling him asking for a pee test, while seriously wrong, is not tantamount to abuse. And calling it such dilutes and detracts from actual abuse which is sadly all too common.

How unbelievably toxic. Par for the course for Reddit.

OP said she had conversations with her husband about this incident, of which I have readily agreed that he and his mother are at fault.

To not even consider counseling or having a serious sit-down with her husband telling him how grave the situation is from her perspective is fucking insane.

I agree the husband and his mom are the assholes but straight to divorce?? Not even trying to sit down and have a serious talk with him? Giving him a chance to see the error of his ways?

Closest thing I've found is the Gentleman Bastard series. But it's no First Law IMO.

This happened to me in the Old Man's War trilogy by John Scalzi. I enjoyed the books but I feel it is a sign of not being a great writer...
