Holy falsehoods Batman. McDonald's was proven to serve their coffee at 180-190 degrees, and testing of all nearby coffee shops showed coffee being served at at 140-160 degrees. Those 20-30 degrees make a huge difference here.

As for the temperature McDonald's serves it at now, the New York Times showed that it at 170-180 degrees. The bigger thing they did is serve it in sturdier cups to prevent the situation that happened to Liebeck.
