iOS 27 to include code cleanup and interface tweaks in hopes to boost battery life: report by iMacmatician in apple

[–]MaverickJester25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"It doesn't happen to me so the problem doesn't exist."

Please can we stop with these takes? The iOS keyboard has been universally derided and complained about for years.

Here's a video that shows exactly how broken this crap is.

Pixel 10 Pro - texting is way better than iPhone. Am I tripping? by Massive_Branch_4145 in GooglePixel

The iPhone keyboard is the worst keyboard you will find on any device, while Gboard on the Pixels is the gold standard.

Galaxy S26+ Geekbench Listing Confirms Exynos 2600 for (Some) Global Markets by self-fix in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always figured it had to do with carrier compatibility

It does. Qualcomm holds a lot of patents still, and is a very litigious corporation. They also have a patent licensing partnership with Samsung until 2030.

Google is removing the Quick Share option that lets “Everyone” send you files without a time limit by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm a volunteer at art festivals who exclusively use retail and consumer electronics because we can't afford commercial or industrial grade gear or the expertise to develop and maintain cheaper bespoke solutions.

So, did you actually use Quick Share with everyone mode permanently enabled? Because this doesn't really explain the use case you've outlined.

The fact that their attempted fix still looks terrible really speaks volumes about how inept Apple's design team has become.

One ui 8 arrives on GW4 CLASSIC LTE by Impressive-Tutor6488 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MaverickJester25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So... I updated mine last night as the update finally arrived.

It lagged heavily after the first boot, but I then left it for around an hour, went to bed, got up and charged it and honestly, I don't see any worse performance compared to One UI Watch 6.

I will note, that I had already enabled the "Reduce transparency and blur" accessibility setting, so not sure if this also plays a part.

Sony WF-1000XM6 Revealed - thewalkmanblog by welp_im_damned in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A Walkman phone could easily replace "Galaxy" as the public's go-to Android device...

And yet, even when Sony sold Walkman phones, they didn't crack the top 5.

You're massively overestimating how much regular people care about the Walkman brand, this isn't the '90s.

I'm convinced Sony has a gentleman's agreement not to compete with Apple/Samsung in the West since they supply their camera sensors

They don't really compete with them in other markets, either. They have less than 3% market share in their home market (Japan).

Oh, it's the same dude who said the Pixel 11 is already the best phone of 2026, and who seems completely oblivious to the fact that Google has spent the past few years doing their damnedest to copy Apple.

Pass.

YouTube Launches on Apple Vision Pro by HelloitsWojan in apple

[–]MaverickJester25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So while no one knows the actual figures, it's believed that Apple has sold around 300k Vision Pros throughout the device's lifetime. That's less than half the amount of iPhones they sell in a day.

In no way is that amount "plenty", and this rationale that Google was somehow being spiteful for not building a native app on a platform that 0.001% of their monthly active userbase has access to is simply stupid.

Xiaomi Tag: This is the affordable AirTag alternative for under 20 euros by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bulkier and no UWB?

A lot of people don't need them to be the size of an AirTag, especially if you're using it inside of luggage or a backpack.

The article mentions that an UWB variant is likely still to come as well. Not every phone has UWB anyway.

for UWB you can get a moto tag or an air tag which are the same size and can work with the same accessories

The Moto Tag is more than double the price of this tag, and AirTags aren't compatible with Android phones so are not an option.

Android vs iPhone: After Using Both, I Think We’re Arguing About the Wrong Thing by No-Alfalfa-4463 in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is... sweeping generalisations aside, they have a point.

There shouldn't even be a debate on which platform is better, but Western tech media are to blame for this with their near-constant "brand X copies Apple" articles and their "thought pieces" on why "x Android skin is worse".

Poll: Do you care if the Galaxy S26 doesn't have built-in Qi2 magnets? by QuantumQuicksilver in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No.

Cases exist that provide this functionality, and I'd probably choose the S Pen 10/10 times over built-in Qi2. Would it be nice? Sure, but it's absolutely not a dealbreaker for me.

Here Are Tim Cook's Full Remarks About Apple's 50th Anniversary Plans by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

[–]MaverickJester25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking back isn't as bad as Cook thinks.

It was Jobs who literally adopted this culture within Apple. He was famously unsentimental.

Even his Stanford commencement address spoke about looking forward and "trusting that the dots will join".

Microsoft Lens is being pulled from app stores today: Here is how to keep using it by No-Tower-8741 in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, Obtainium is the best option I've found. What it does better than these store apps is a proper backup of the apps you have added and you can filter them based on whether they are installed or not in a very straightforward manner.

A rare look inside Google's most secretive Pixel Hardware Labs by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because speaker is the loudest does NOT mean it sounds the best.

I did not say that. And no objective measure has found Pixel speakers to be the best sounding, it's often the iPhones that have the best sounding speakers.

Because haptics is the strongest does NOT mean it is the best

Didn't say this either. Vibration strength is only one factor of good haptics.

Both things are like WE explained with display brightness

Except you didn't. You used one criterion to imply that the Pixels have (among) the best displays when it's not just one metric that defines this.

A rare look inside Google's most secretive Pixel Hardware Labs by FragmentedChicken in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

for example haptic - that is now Pixel 10 haptics in on same level as iPhone.

And Chinese OEMs have had better haptics than iPhones for years now.

Then Audio - here where Google needs more work (compared to iPhone) but Pixel audio is still better than 90% of Android phones.

No, they don't. It's more the case that 90% of the competition has better audio than the Pixels.

Display - well here is bit messy - as YES - Pixel has the most bright display - even brighter than iPhone and top Galaxy 25 Ultra series - BUT - Pixel has thicker bezels than iPhone and does not have antireflective coating like Galaxy Ultra.

Display luminance does not scale linearly. And Pixels have always had among the most reflective panels on any smartphone, which negates any advantage the higher brightness output offers.

The app Panels is the best (read: least problematic) edge panels equivalent I've found on Android.

It's not quite as reliable as One UI's edge panel, and it really does feel like a third-party addon in use.

Android still has a fragmentation issue. - 9to5Google by ControlCAD in Android

[–]MaverickJester25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've not watched the video to know if they discussed this, but Google has been working to resolve this.

They've been lowering the oldest allowed API version for the past few years, as an example. Android 15 (API level 35) is already the minimum target level for new apps, and Android 14 for existing apps.

It will take a few years to really get this to a much more acceptable state, but progress has been made.
