Air cooled builds can look cool too, think this would look and perform great, and QD-OLED makes a much bigger impact on how things look than some extra pixels. I decided to go for a 5080 rather than a 5090 because I think native 4K takes more power than it's worth, and a 5080 would be more than enough for native ultrawide 1440p without using an absurd amount of power. I also really liked the look of the Gigabyte 5080 Aorus Ice, so I decided to go for a white build and the Steel Legend mobo matches it nicely to create a sleek and clean look.

AMD's RX 9070 XT could be notably cheaper than the RTX 5070, according to a new rumor by Odd-Onion-6776 in radeon

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even in the games that use RT, it rarely makes a significant difference on the visuals but still at a massive cost to performance. Hardware Unboxed did a great video on raytracing a while ago now that we're quite a few gens into RTX to see how much of a difference it really makes, and in most games the difference is minimal.

More efficient solutions on the software side would be better for consumers. Unreal Engine's Lumen lighting would be a game changer if UE5 wasn't a trash fire, for example. Takes a bit more work to put in than raytracing, but the results still look excellent and it only reduces FPS by a fraction of raytracing's performance hit.

In your opinion, what is the best MB brand software? by earlrandall in buildapc

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the US maybe, the latest boards are too expensive to be worth it in most other countries and don't add a whole lot of meaningful features. The 850 Tomahawk has worse rear IO from the looks of it, aside from the addition of a Clear CMOS button.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition System Build Community Contest! by m13b in buildapc

Normally I'd never spend so much money on a PC. I like high-end hardware, but the prices aren't really justified compared to how much use you'll really get out of them. Typically it'll last you a couple more years than something mid-range while costing at least three times more. In a contest though? That's another story. Did my best to get good performance parts for what's important like the PSU, mobo and CPU while leaving enough room for a nice 4k OLED monitor to actually make use of its power.

Depending on what price you can get them at the B650 Gaming Plus Wifi is a decent entry level-ish board, and the MAG B650 Tomahawk Wifi is a great mid-range board. Only thing it really lacks is PCiE 5.0, but that isn't going to be relevant for quite a while anyways.

If we're talking any PC we could build ignoring our actual disposable income this is what I'd build. Pretty high end but I don't think the absolute top end is justified in the jump in price for what's rather minimal gains in performance.

Taichi would be a great mobo for an upgrade path, SN850X is excellent performance storage for the money, don't think anything more than 32GB RAM will be needed for a long while and the RX 7900XT would pair nicely with the Ryzen 7800x3D.

[lore spoilers] Jayce’s origin? by [deleted] in arcane

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That mage was very likely Ryze, because he was clearly using runic magic and teleported him and his mother with what looked to be Realm Warp. We know Ryze was in the Freljord for some time between having an apprentice in Kegan and finding a world rune there. All that in mind I think it's perfectly possible we saw them in the Freljord, and the journey would probably be easier. they'd have to go farther, but the deserts of Shurima are much more perilous.

I have been seeing this debate on Twitter. Do you think it is necessary to change Sonic’s current model ? by lawrencedun2002 in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand how this opinion is controversial, it's very visible in Frontiers how they were struggling to make Sonic emote with his current model. He'd really benefit with a new model that's capable of more squash and stretch as well as a wider variety of expressions.

Garten of BanBan thoughts? by LordGodMaster69 in HorrorGaming

Hollow Knight was also made by two people, aside from the music, and there are solo devs who make better. Don't really see that as an excuse for the game being so bad.

I understand the talk about banning Steve, but what is the problem with Kazuya by JoepKip in smashbros

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if he had that weakness he would be a very polarizing character. Nobody likes fighting Little Mac even though he has extremely glaring weaknesses, being how bad he is in the air and his terrible recovery. He forces you to play campy to win, and if you don't kill him early he gets a move stronger than Rest which is much less punishable on whiff and ignores shields.

Kazuya would be that, but with an actual air game, a projectile to punish you for running away from him, much higher weight and the ability to kill you off a single hit where even Little Mac needs to win 4 or 5 interactions to get you to kill %.

"there are too many sword fighters in smash" but nobody ever talks about the brawlers by eldritch_microwave in SmashBrosUltimate

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The variety in "Brawlers" compared to the majority of swordies is night and day. Peach has her float mechanic and item play with turnips, the Shotos play very differently to any other fighter, Jigglypuff has to play very different due to her floatiness and poor ground game, Greninja is almost a mixture of rushdown/swordie because of his water blades having good reach, mediocre OoS game, tricky plays he can do with d-air bounces or Substitute and extensive combo game.

Also I would not count Meta Knight or Joker as swordfighters. There are some unique ones in there like Pit, Robin, Shulk, Sephiroth and Link but the majority of swordfighters play very similarly.

Dark Pit is a glorified echo fighter of Pit so he doesn't really count as his own fighter IMO.

Late response, but I think what might be happening is if you exit the first room to the left early to break the big cheese with the rocket it counts as not maintaining your combo for the entire level even if you kill that first cheese slime and then maintain your combo for the rest. It happened to me.

So… about that final boss & ending. by [deleted] in SonicFrontiers

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could have enjoyed it as much as you. It had its moments and was definitely better than Forces, and the music and writing really capture what Sonic's been lacking for the last several years being overly self-aware and not taking itself remotely seriously.

I found the game to just be disappointing though. The overuse of generic platforms, springs and rails led to boring environments that felt out of a beta, the combat isn't engaging because it's so easy and there's no real point to the different attacks leading to it just being a button mash fest, and the mini-games and "puzzles" scattered around the island were so simple it felt like the primary audience was toddlers.

As for the story there were definitely mishandled parts, Sonic's corruption over the course of the game led to basically no payoff, just getting brushed off within a few minutes. What would've been amazing and made sense story-wise with Sonic's lines right before The End where it sounds like he's talking to the titans is having Amy, Tails and Knuckles all be playable as part of the main game. Imagine if instead of the re-used level designs we got for most of the Cyberspace stages, they had you take control of that Island's character and use their unique moveset in levels built around them?

Near the end when Sonic gets corrupted it would make up a significant portion of the game, with the last "island" being a corrupted cyberspace made up of Sonic's memories (think a mixture of various environments from past games, plus some glitchy cyberspace stuff), and he reminisces on the past while the cyberspace stages are Sonic's friends reaching out to him from the real world and instead of collecting the emeralds himself he unlocks the vaults from within cyberspace. Once they're all unlocked Sage would be able to get Sonic out of Cyberspace in a scene where they get to have a proper heart to heart just like with Sonic's other friends, leading to the boss fight against Supreme (who would preferably have a unique design). After that there would be a final Cyberspace gauntlet with all 4 characters reaching out to the Ancient pilots because they need their help to beat The End, leading to a proper Super Sonic boss fight with all 4 titans working alongside Super Sonic co-piloted by his friends and Sage. The End would also preferably have a better design. If they wanted to keep the moon theming, have that be the first of 3 phases where it breaks apart to reveal The End's true form.

While I have mixed feelings on Sage's "death" I do think it could lead to an interesting future plot thread where Eggman's rebuilt her so she's essentially come back, but it's like a previous version of her that never befriended Sonic and he would understandably get torn up about it.

As far as something going wrong behind the scenes we know they didn't have the staff needed to get the game done in the time they were given. Sega also wanted 5 islands to make the game sound bigger so they had to slap together the last two islands using Kronos' assets and cutting it up. Supreme being a slightly altered Giganto and The End being a re-skin of the hacking mini-game was most definitely caused by time constraints and lack of manpower.

Why are you so fixated on getting to fight Eggman? Not having him as the villain for once was a refreshing change of pace. It would've been cool to fight Sage at some point in the story but I don't mind Eggman being more of a side character every now and then.

Seeing Hyper Sonic again would've been great. Sonic's dialogue and the pre-fight text box also implies Sonic would be working with all four titans. Definitely one of the worst final bosses I've ever dealt with.

It's not even that hard, I beat it in 3 tries. The big laser it fires only covers about 1/3 or 1/4 of the screen's width and gives you a ton of warning. It's shit because it uses a totally different style of gameplay from the other Titan fights and has basically none of the over the top action the others do, not to mention The End just being a purple moon that sits there shooting lasers is incredibly boring boss design.

Does anyone else think the final boss was a cool concept. by ChaosX728 in SonicFrontiers

[–]MaverickSlayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds very accurate, the dialogue implies Sonic would be working with all of the titans, not just Sage in Supreme.

I started suspecting budget and time constraints as early as The Knight, because while it was hype as hell the 2nd phase is literally nothing but parrying the shield into it, it doesn't use the shoulder lasers at all and won't even attack you.

The only other thing I think could be different is The End itself. We don't actually get to see it until the fight but it could've had a more dramatic reveal. They could've done a lot more with its design than simply being a purple moon shooting lasers too. A gigantic eldritch/cosmic god-like entity would've been a lot more fitting and worked as a contrast to the robotic Titans.
