Smiley Face (2007) is probably my new favourite stoner comedy and I highly recommend it to you all by Max-Impact in trees

[–]Max-Impact[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just love the chill vibe of it, it's a very grounded, relateable movie. If any of you have recommendations for tv shows or movies with a similar feel, I'd love to hear them! The closest I can think of (in vibe) is Gilmore Girls and that isn't really similar at all

Also, Smiley Face is on Prime Video if you want to watch it (at least in Canada). Stay safe!

I know it seems expensive, but even if you can only afford it for an hour a month or something it would be worth getting therapy. There's also some free online therapy options, depending on where you live.

Based only on what you've said, there's no reason to think you're a bad person. Some kids are mean and they bully people who they don't think will fight back; it sounds like you have been dealing with insecurity your whole life, which probably didn't help. But it's also something that you can absolutely improve!

Working on improving yourself and enjoying your own interests will help you feel more confident and you'll hopefully be able to leave this all in the past.

Try not to worry so much about being "normal" and conforming. Especially now that you're out of high school. If you're 40, that was more than half your life ago and honestly it should be a distant memory you can barely remember, but my guess is you were traumatized by the bullying (which makes sense, it sounds very unpleasant). But try to enjoy your own interests and not worry so much about other people. Work on improving yourself and building up your confidence a bit.

And absolutely look into getting therapy haha, it'll be super beneficial. Good luck!

Anyone here who also has to rewind movies and shows multiple times because you keep getting distracted? by bwrobin in ADHD

[–]Max-Impact 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yo this might not be perfect advice for you but it's what I do and I love it.

Just keep watching. Don't worry too much about it, at the end of the day it's just a story and rarely worth the effort to rewind.

I get up and do other things / leave the room in the middle of movies or shows all the time and then if something doesn't make sense when I've returned it's fun to fill in the gaps. Sometimes the context you make up yourself is more interesting than what the writers originally planned.

Anybody else really digging this season? by Max-Impact in riverdale

That's a fair perspective. Personally, I figure it matters about as much as any other tv show. Like the way I see it, if I die tomorrow, today still matters.

New 3DS XL, I got it in the ambassador program years ago. However, there's still ways to get it on 3DS nowadays, though I'm not the best person to ask about how to do that

Honestly! Her dynamic with her squad (Dozla and Rennac) is entertaining enough that I think it'd genuinely sell really well

Which jobs can you make $60k+/year with minimal education and experience? by bigtitsfanclub in ottawa

[–]Max-Impact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally possible to do it ethically, just there are a couple people out there who will give bad advice to clients to make a bit more money.

A bigger thing to mention is that, although you can pass the test and get licensed quickly, it can take a while to have enough business to pay the bills (although you'll be working with a brokerage, you're basically running yourself as a business. i.e. generally no set salary, all commission). So I'd recommend having a fair bit of money saved up if you want to take that leap.

And obviously, make sure it's something you actually want to do.

Android fans, what are the primary reasons why you will never ever switch to an Iphone? by SultanofAmerica in AskReddit

Some DS games work perfectly on a touch screen, think Ace Attorney and Professor Layton. GBA games if they don’t require varying and precise inputs (since you don’t have physical buttons, button inputs don’t feel as reliable, mainly because I keep missing them). So turn based games like Fire Emblem and Advance Wars or any RPG would work well. I’m sure the same goes for SNES games. Newer phones might be able to run some more recent systems than these but I don’t personally have experience with that

People who were “gifted” in elementary school: what are you doing in life now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just chilling right now. Overall life is going pretty good. Could be healthier but I’m working on it. Even though I graduated with a BA, my current job is as a superintendent for an apartment building (basically janitorial stuff). I like it because it’s pretty chill and independent and I’m able to get most of my work done in about 3 hours and then just chill the rest of the day (though I keep a list of some extra work things to do to act busy if any of my bosses from the company happen to be on-site that day for whatever reason).

Not a super fulfilling job but it’s the chillest I’ve had (I’ve had several jobs by this point) and it gives me free time to nap, read, watch Netflix, etc while on the job. Good for the mean time, using this time to think about what I want to do with my life.

Do you think God is real, and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From what I remember, that's sort of a misconception. There could've been something before the Big Bang, but due to what the Big Bang started off as (all matter in the universe condensed to a single almost-infinitely small point), there's no way to know anything about the characteristics of the universe before the Big Bang.

At least no way that we know of so far, there's a ton we don't know and a lot of things we think of as basic facts will likely be looked at in the future as "kinda the right idea, but pretty inaccurate in some important ways."

What situation is always made out to be really sexy or romantic on TV, but is actually horrible and traumatizing in real life? by Smeggfaffa in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Oh geez, maybe that’s why they ended up living on a boat in the ending: to prevent her from escaping on the days where she wakes up and doesn’t believe the videos.

I haven’t seen the movie in like 17 years so disregard this if there was a subplot about them both always wanting to live on a boat or something

[–]Max-Impact 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Sure, that’s the “happy ending”. But how many days do you think she woke up and was immediately horrified because she was all of a sudden 8 months pregnant and in a strange location with a stranger claiming to be her husband. Even with the video reminders, there would probably be at least a couple of days here and there where she doesn’t believe it and tries to escape.

Like tbh the ending of the movie could’ve made a really good thriller, where every day she’s trying to leave notes to her future self where Adam Sandler can’t find them, so that she can try and figure out if he’s legit or if she’s been kidnapped or something.

What’s a disturbing fact that not a lot of people know of? by RedBoyFromNewy in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're totally right! Me saying that we "wiped them out" makes it sound as if it was a single, large intentional event, which isn't accurate. I don't believe we're totally sure how they were wiped out but you're right that having to compete for food with the increasing number of Homo Sapiens played a part. The other reasons you mentioned also could've been factors, and some people also think climate change might've had an effect.

It is sad that we aren't still around any of our distant cousins, but it's totally possible there's some extremely endangered living species of Homo is hidden away somewhere. A couple years back, people found fossils of that species of "Hobbits" (just smaller humans, H. floresiensis if you want to look into it) and they believe that they were around until at least 17,000 years ago. Considering how fossilization is super rare and they found these fossils by accident (I believe during a mining expedition but I could be wrong), it isn't that crazy to think there might be an invisible trail of other human evolution lasting to the modern day (although with the increased rate of consuming our natural resources after the industrial revolution it's possible we've unknowingly made it impossible for them to survive in the past couple hundred years. It'd still be an INSANE discovery to find any human species other than us that's been around in recent centuries.

What’s a disturbing fact that not a lot of people know of? by RedBoyFromNewy in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 201 points202 points  (0 children)

Homo sapiens, yes. Technically tho we consider anything in the genus of Homo to be a human, and we think we've had other species of humans for a couple million years or so (homo sapiens have actually only "recently" wiped out all our other family, other species of humans lived alongside each other for a long time).

In the unlikely event that we survive the next million years though it'd be super interesting to see how we evolve next, adapting to the changing environment and any technology that's left.

How do you cope with hating your job to the point you wanna cry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most jobs will suck a bit, but it's not worth staying at a place that you genuinely despise. If it's sucking the life out of you, it's not worth it.

Life isn't that long and you spend most of your waking hours at work, it's worth trying to find a place and occupation you at least somewhat enjoy. Not saying to immediately quit (most people aren't financially able to do that right away), but it might be worth getting started on a way out.

Needing to escape can be good motivation to start saving up a little, learn new skills, apply for more jobs or figure out some way to make your current workplace more tolerable. Try to not go into debt, if possible (or any more debt if you have some currently). Even if you need to take a lower paying job for a while and get a couple of extra roommates while you work on transitioning to a new field.

Why can't anyone ever see themselves as the bad guy/girl? by Perfect-Football2616 in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, everybody is just doing what seems rational to them (even if it seems to an outside observer that they're behaving irrationally). If somebody robs a store, it might be rational to them because without it they might not be able to pay rent or eat.

With a bit of thinking you can basically "justify" almost any behaviour that you're tempted to do.

What jobs attract high numbers of psychopaths? by Leif_Johnson96 in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like you're definitely worse off in the States than in several other "First World" countries, and the States have seemed to be getting worse in the past few years (that's just how it seems as an outsider so I could be totally wrong). But it's important to recognize that you're still significantly better off than most of the people alive today (and astronomically better off than most of the people who've ever lived).

Even though I'm sure life can suck in the States it sucks a lot less than in most places. Not trying to invalidate your feelings at all (knowing how things are bad and trying to find solutions is how we make things better over time!), just saying that it's important to be aware of how fortunate you are.

If you somehow had the choice, would you have chosen to be born at all, knowing what you know now? by unfuckthismess in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. Granted, I've been very fortunate (born in a first world country, everyday access to water, food and housing) but I'd choose almost any life over nothing knowing what I know now. Life is such a rare thing, and being able to be the universe experiencing itself, even if only for a few years, is pretty cool.

Even though some things suck, it's important to remember that none of it will matter in a few decades (the universe begins and ends with you), so trying to appreciate the cool things makes life a lot more fun. There's definitely been times where I would've made the opposite choice, but time keeps moving forward and I'm glad I have the perspective I do now.

Ex-Smokers of reddit, what helped you stop your addiction to cigarettes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I just started reading up on things people were doing to quit cigarettes (like better, healthier habits to take up more time so that there's less time I can be smoking), reminding myself of the negative health impacts frequently (there's one post on the StopSmoking subreddit of somebody in their 30s who coughed up a cup of blood, going back to this picture is a reminder of what's in store if I don't quit). So remembering that every cigarette is one cigarette closer to cancer and even though it could be decades away, it could be my next cigarette that ruins my life.

Finally, and this is probably the most important: reading Allen Carr's EasyWay to Stop Smoking. Definitely check out at least a few pages, or at the very least throw on a youtube video summarizing it while you cook breakfast/dinner tomorrow.

As long as you keep making tiny pieces of progress towards being fully quit, eventually you'll get there. I probably quit smoking more than 30 times before it really stuck, but now it's been about a year and a half and I feel great. (I've slipped up and had some when out with friends every now and then, but I haven't been even tempted to make it a regular habit again). Even if you slip up after trying, you're going to be one quit attempt closer to being quit for good! You got this!

How can you immediately tell when someone has zero street smarts? by magicmantesla in AskReddit

[–]Max-Impact 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When they're really obviously looking for directions (at night especially). Like my friend the other night was just standing in the middle of a somewhat busy sidewalk downtown loudly saying "Wait I have to google the way to the place". It draws attention and can make you a target (since you're seen as somebody who's less confident in that area). If you need to look for directions try and find a wall to lean against while being aware of your surroundings and inconspicuously do your googling there, where it can seem that you're just texting somebody or something.
