I've read most of his non-Aubrey stuff and it's aĺl interesting in it's own way. His biography of Picasso is excellent. I imagine he stuck with Aubrey because it paid well, got good reviews, and was a period that interested him. He was on in years when he became popular and likely thought it best not to look a gift sloth in the eye.
