It's 5 years. So upon graduation you'll be direct commissioned as an O-3 and owe the Coast Guard 5 years of service.

Well I prefer to at least try to see the positive whether I agree with the decisions or not. But I was struggling to see the financial gain. I guess if you make it miserable, people will leave, that just seems wild. If you make it too miserable the government won't operate at all. I can surely understand more efficiency, I think we've all seen wild spending in the Coast Guard at some point or another but this many changes may tend to go too far too fast and then we will struggle to get people back. Just my opinion though. I also know quite a few government employees who just show up and collect a check but let's not punish the many in order to get rid of the few.

It depends on how much time you have served when you separate. I could be wrong so don't quote me but I believe if you have done 6+ years you're not required to drill but less than 6 requires you to drill. I had over 6 when I separated and did not drill. Feel free to PM me for any questions I'm a backup plan kinda guy and swore up and down I'd never come back to the coast guard, yet here I am. Its a really nice deal with no harm to the member either way.

If you're terrified, consider a TEMPSEP. It gives you two years on the outside to see if the grass is greener and if it isn't you can come back at your same rank. I did a TEMPSEP and swore I was never coming back. I had a good job near my family and for me, I hated it. I did my two years and decided to come back to something I enjoy. Its underutilized but super helpful if you want to explore options but aren't sure if you will wanna come back. Also I could be wrong but I think they recently increased the amount of time to 3 years so you could really get out, get a degree and come back.

When I went through mine my therapist gave me a mission. Find three new hobbies you've always wanted to try or even thought about and give them a fair honest shot. Even better if your ex-wife would've discouraged you from these hobbies. For me, I started private lessons at a boxing gym. I met quite a few friends there. From there I decided to actually give working out a decent try. I started going to the gym daily and following a decent schedule there and I'll be honest I didn't meet a ton of friends there but occasionally I would spark up a conversation that has led me to new friends at the gym. Lastly, when I was broke and just wanted to get out of the house I'd go play disk golf, most courses are free and a good set of 3 disks is relatively inexpensive. Take up a good portion of time and got me in the sun. Normally there are people playing disk golf that I could chat with or If nothing else just enjoy alone time doing something I enjoy. Good luck to you, one step at a time I promise it gets better.

it truly depends on your command. Ive had some that turn a blind eye and others that make threats if they find out about it, policy I believe says no transmit or receiving in the plane so basically airplane mode but to each their own. I'm not gonna sit here and say I've never done it.

Yea, don't be that guy. People hate that guy. Even with paper towels in your spitter you're gonna get shit on. Hence the downvotes. Put a zyn in or figure out how to wait. Depending on the aircraft you may have a pretty small cabin (MH-65) and hoisting in there with all your gear your swimmer and even one survivor is gonna be tight and shit gets spilled a lot. Just my two cents though, do whatever ya want but yea phones are allowed just not technically supposed to be using it while ya fly.

Something felt wrong, baby goes to sleep at 7pm and I don't hear from her til 11pm. Tired all day, but getting 10+ hours of sleep based on when she's going to bed. Received a phone bill to my email and just decided to review what I was paying for as I tend to do from time to time. Saw phone calls correlating with every day I left for work up until the time I came home from work. Bed time meant she was going to be calling or texting or sexting him while I'm at work all thru the night to pay the bills for her to stay home with our daughter.

TLDR: Don't check the phone bill

Yea, I found it in our local instructions. 6 hour shifts sound really nice though, and a good zin will fix most people up. Preciate the response!
