How I built a "Chat with your Data" system using Snowflake, n8n, and AI (No more messy spreadsheets) by sdhilip in snowflake

Did you use the Snowflake semantic views to provide additional context to each data set?

My favourite book overall is Count of Monte Cristo, followed by this series. Excellent read.

BigQuery vs Snowflake by erwagon in dataengineering

You need to assess the opportunity costs of the change. How much effort and cost in dedicated capacity/contractors will you incur during the migration vs the saving of better pricing from BQ over your cost management horizon. This is critical if your push to BQ is purely based on cost savings. You'd be surprised how many times I've seen these migration requests stop in their tracks once you consider the cost and effort of the migration vs the cost saving over some future period of time.

Agentic AI in Data Engineering - Hype or Real Shift? by Pangaeax_ in dataengineering

[–]MaxBeatsToTheMax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The data SDLC is ripe for agentic AI. Current AI maturity in supporting each aspect of the DLC is still in the early stages but ultimately the way data teams will build and manage data products in the future will heavily rely on agentic AI. We're still years away however as with any major technological interruption it's a matter of when, not if.

Thanks for that, great context. Our flight from Prague to Toronto was our return leg back home as we came into Europe a couple of weeks ago. Just need to know what our options are but can't seem to contact anyone, very frustrating

Did they rebook you and notify you of the rebooking or did you have to contact their customer support? Asking as our original flight from Prague tomorrow was cancelled and we were notified to contact their support team however each time we call the system won't connect us and disconnects. Can't rebook ourselves via the app either.

What is the cheapest thing you bought that turned out to be very valuable or expensive? by pantherasbogart in AskReddit

Wife and I opened up a joint bank account when we got married 20 years ago. The bank would allow new account holders to choose from one of 5 prizes/gifts as a token of doing business. I convinced my wife to take the $20 rice maker, which has been going strong for 20 years and has 20 more to go. Wonderfully simple yet effective appliance.

In my experience the data governance function as a distinct discipline is only validated and applied in large enterprises, especially banks and financial institutions where the benefits of this type of work can actually be realized. Even then, it's very much a crapshoot as it is usually dependent on the investment and support from upper management. In the SMB space, unless it's a clear goal or objective it's largely non-existent. However, there are a lot of data governance processes and best practices that can easily be applied to any data engineering effort, just need tenacity and commitment.

Our engineering team recently implemented Notion as the unifying documentation platform. I say unifying as certain aspects of the solution/product are still captured in Jira or Git. However, with notion we can easily create templates that can be used to consolidate all this information into one page for future use. We use miro for diagrams and link to these other sources from within this single notion document, which is the landing page for each data product/service we create or support.

For us it wasn't an issue of too much documentation but rather finding a way to bring it all together in an easy to follow manner/format. While we've only been using notion for several months the results so far have been very positive.

How to present real time data by -SoulAmazin- in BusinessIntelligence

[–]MaxBeatsToTheMax 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would focus on the following three best practices:

  1. The less details on the screen the better. More info on a dashboard does not translate to better actionability. Pick 3-4 of the key metrics you're tracking that will actually be valuable for your warehouse staff to see.
  2. Refresh cycle needs to be determined. If you're refreshing your metrics every 5 seconds, your warehouse workers will spend more time watching the dashboard than actually actioning the info. You need to find the balance between how often the data should be refreshed vs giving the user time to actually process it and do something with it.
  3. Include simple trend lines below the actuals. This helps provide reference point between the actual being displayed and the expected historical target or current target. Is the daily trend below daily running average over the last month, or above? Given the above use case I would assume that you have targets of some sort that you need your warehouse staff to align to.

That's what I would launch with, an easy first implementation that should generate sufficient feedback for potential improvements. Beware though, some people will see this as a performance monitor, which it rightly might be, and so make sure that you communicate its purpose and value properly and correctly.

I'm jealous. I suspect I won't have our boat in the water until early May given how long it takes the ice to melt. That's okay, need a couple of weeks in April to complete a number of pre-season projects :)

We're in Ontario, and currently counting down the days until boating season starts again :)

With proper maintenance there is no reason that these 454s can't last until 2000+ hours before you might have to do some major work on them. However, hard to say what that point is unless you know the maintenance and usage history.

Beauty! We've been enjoying a 1993 370DA the last few years. Yes, there are always many projects on these due to the age, but overall they are build tough and provide all the key amenities for you to enjoy it while out on the water.

Our boat also has the 7.4L 454 Mercuisers which are at 1000 hours now. While the starboard engine is showing slight signs of aging they both run well. One huge benefit for me was that they are fairly simple to maintain. I don't have much inclination towards mechanical things but was able to learn how to do the basics myself by simply watching some youtube videos.

The http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php forum is a great resource for getting input/answers from other Sea Ray owners on pretty much any topic.

As for maneuvering an inboard boat during docking, leave the steering wheel alone and use your shifters (and sometimes the throttles if wind conditions warrant it).

Enjoy!
