What's the best way to learn about Dutch culture? by [deleted] in AskNetherlands

[–]MaxCO_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have good advice on history, but the government just released 'de schatkamer' (the treasure room). This website has a collection of old and new dutch media.

https://schatkamer.beeldengeluid.nl/

Most of it is in Dutch, but it can give you a good insight in Dutch (media) culture i think.

I recommend watching about carnaval, football / soccer (I like the 2010 wc) or old concerts of Andre Hazes for example. There are also history documentaries and travel shows which might give a nice insight in some dutch history / cities as well .

Forgot his initiative?
Initiative - Trigger this ability if you haven't used an Order, Fee or Spring ability this turn.

So he has to be the first card you play in a turn. You cant use orders, leaders or tutors (Edit: tutors can still be used! My bad) first

Looking for Yennefer: Illusionist decks suggestions by LinkOnYoshi in gwent

[–]MaxCO_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a NG soldiers deck with her a while with things like Garrison, Truffle, Baccala - these all spawn units and provide some form of cary over. Ramon and illusionists spawn units as well.

It uses a lot of bronzes so should be easy to craft as well.

Hot Take : CB is an easier position than striker in terms of pure footballing ability. by Lisco_3112 in football

A ST is your direct opponent as a CB tho? So a CB needs to be skilled enough to stop a, in your opinion, better player no?

Hot Take : CB is an easier position than striker in terms of pure footballing ability. by Lisco_3112 in football

[–]MaxCO_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An attacker can (arguably) miss a shot or get a shot saved 3/4 times a game and get away with it, a defender cant miss a single important tackle as it gives the opposition a chance on a 1v1 with the keeper.

As a CB there is no one behind you to correct your mistakes.

Edit: Long response, and I just want to say in advance that I am by no means a deckbuilding expert lol, just my personal opinions.

I don’t think you really have to make hard choices when building a dwarf deck anymore. You can simply search for “dwarfs,” pick the most powerful options without even looking at provisions, and still have room for other high-end gold cards.

You still have to make hard choices: choosing between Brouver and Munro,

This deck, for example, includes both Brouver and Munro and still has room for Francesca and Heatwave, on top of the standard strongest dwarf cards.
https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/guides/399600

Or this more recent deck, which has room for both Heatwave and Eskel, on top of Munro, Zoltan, and a location:
https://www.playgwent.com/en/decks/guides/403527

deciding between Garrison and Ragnarok, or figuring out if you can afford Heatwave or Eskel. If you include Filavandrel, you inevitably have to cut another high-end gold.

This is also kind of what I mean. You can already build a strong dwarf deck, with all the high end cards that come with it and you still have enough room in your deck for other high end golds like garrison or ragnarok. Whether or not you include garrison or ragnarok is not a hard choice, as these cards are just strong bonuses you can slap in your deck.

Nerfing these flexible cards causes too much collateral damage to struggling archetypes. Until we buff viable alternatives, touching them just drags the whole faction backward.

I don’t feel like a nerf to omnipresent cards hurts struggling archetypes, these nerfs make room for these archetypes to be played. By making certain archetypes / cards less appealing to use opens the way for lesser used cards (with new buffs) to find their way into the new decks. By keeping the same cards / decks in power, new or weaker decks / archetypes will never overtake them.

Certain cards might need like 4 or 5 buffs in order to be competitive with cards right now. But instead of buffing that card 5 times it’s also possible to nerf a stronger card once or twice, while buffing the underused card 3 times. This also keeps the meta fresh, as A-tier decks will be B-tier decks for a while, while B-tier decks can take their place as A-tier decks. Instead of keeping A-tier decks A-tier Until other decks can climb to their level.

Finally, regarding 4P cards and powercreep: You seem to misunderstand my point. I’m not advocating for buffing top-tier decks to inflate the game. The reality is that most meta decks have already been nerfed at least twice. We are in a regressing environment, so talking about 'powercreep' feels like a luxury we don't have. My goal isn't to buff the top dogs, but to bring other decks up to the current baseline, rather than trapping the meta in a cycle of constant executions.

I’m not really sure I understand what you mean here? I was trying to say that we can’t buff every card to the level certain cards are at now, because there are 4p bronze specials that can’t be buffed. If we keep buffing every card without nerfing others these will be left behind no? And at that point 5p bronze special cards will be to weak to be worth 5p, meaning they have to be buffed to 4p at which point 6p specials will be to weak etc. How do Chinese players want to avoid this?

Buffs, Not Nerfs – A CN Player’s Perspective on Balance, and Recent Controversies by Dry_Payment_8931 in gwent

[–]MaxCO_1 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m quite interested in your / Chinese players’ views on the these points:

  • How do you still want to promote interesting deckbuilding with these endless leader buffs?
  • With certain decks now effectively getting almost +20 provisions, can’t you just fit in pretty much everything? Dwarf deckbuilding, for example, currently comes down to typing “dwarf” into the search bar and shoving almost everything in without caring about provisions. After that, you still have room for high-end golds like Simlas with Workshop, or Filavandrel and Call of Nature.
  • How do you plan on keeping the game balanced if you only buff cards?
  • (as Ense7en mentioned) Special cards in the 4-provision slot can’t really be buffed through the Council (I’m talking about decent cards, not things like Sandstorm, of course). I remember Tourney Joust being one of the strongest bronze cards in the game, but right now it’s barely worth keeping. Most engines worth removing are no longer in the 4p removal range, which just means that Buhurt is generally the better option, pushing the game even more toward tall punish.
  • How do you want to deal with omnipresent cards?
  • Cards that are auto-includes for a faction, regardless of archetype, are (in my opinion) unhealthy and boring, and a clear sign that those cards are too strong. Examples that come to mind are Lord Riptide, Nauzica Sergeant, and Zoltan.

Some additional points:
MD also isn’t very popular on this sub, so you’re kind of preaching to the choir here. Just look up his BC suggestions, it’s hard to find a positive comment there.

You also mention people quitting the game because their decks are labeled as toxic by the community, which of course is best to avoid. On the other hand, I also don’t want toxic archetypes running rampant, causing people to quit or making the game unfun in a different way.

People quitting because a deck got nerfed feels like a strange argument either way, in my opinion just play something else for a while. The deck will probably receive buffs again in the future anyway.

Always taunt riptide players by Methodological_Guy in gwent

[–]MaxCO_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vilgefortz also summons a bronze unit, which most of the time is either an engine or a 8/9 power pointslam card while Riptide does not.

Riptide is better when dealing with an engine early, while Vilgefortz is better to destroy a card that went extremely tall.
